you allow the reader to see and feel the conversation the cat is having with the dog telling him he need to stay of the couch and don't try competing

Hah! If cats could speak, it would be something like this they'd say to their canine roommates. Sure, cats run from dogs all of the time, but I think it's only because they like to taunt them, and for the most part, the dogs will never be able to catch them. They like to rub that in the doggies noses a little, I think.

Me too. I don't particularly care for cats, and neither do my three dogs. Cats are devious, self serving animals.
