I always enjoy a western, and yours started out High Noon predictable with the sheriff going out to meet the outlaw. I was pleasantly surprised by the sudden appearance of the little brother who saves the day. The rhythm is smooth throughout. Rod

Since you didn't get the certificate, I'm giving you tht extra star! Give the star to the sheriff! (ouch!) I don't know if you had anything particular in mind, but when I read the words, I could hear Lorne Greene's voice, speak-singing it.

Great handling of rhyme and rhythm. Unforced and natural, with a nice Western drawl about the whole piece. A really enjoyable read, except I'm not sure about the last stanza. Why is Nate cross, and you need to end with something a bit more final. But that's just my personal opinion, which you can ignore of course.

Nate didn't want his kid brother to be a gunfighter. Normal for a big brother don't you think? Thank you for the review and stars. I always value any critic! It will make me a better poet! Have a nice evening. Nancy

Wow! This is like a mini book. This is quite different from the more romantic type writing you do, but I really like it! You should venture out of your comfort zone more often! GREAT JOB!

Hello Nancy, how did I miss this one way back in 2014. It is so well written and, of course, consistent rhyme in heptameter (your favourite rhyming form). You write like you know what you are talking about and I enjoyed the read. Always good to read your work - stay well and warm regards Dorothy xx (lucky I had a six left and happy to give it to you).

Thank you for the wonderful words and generous six, Dorothy. Two reviews this morning and a six on each one. Talk about a good start to the day. Trouble is they are both revives. I can't seem to write anymore. I think life gets in the way. I appreciate the support of fans like you and hope my muse will return someday. Hugs. Nancy:)

A very well-written story poem that plays off in the wild west. A place where everyone should know how to shoot a gun accurately or end up dead before the end of the day.

Thank heaven those days are in the past. Thanks for the review and stars, Sandra. Wear your mask when you go out, Dear. Just be safe. Nancy:)

That's a western story well told! And I also liked that you added some sibling rivalry into the typical sheriff vs. outlaw mix, with the little brother coming to the rescue and earning a deputy status!

A real blast from the past her, Nancy. Sorry I didn't catch this one first time around. It reminds me in so many ways of the old west and television and movies depicting much of the action expressed in your poem.
As it happened, little brother, was so sure that he could win,
he went searching for the outlaw, so the shoot-out could begin.
As he walked the street in silence, all who saw him knew the score,
when at last he saw the outlaw standing at the stable door."
FYI My favorite movie of all time is "Shane" starring Alan Ladd from 1953.
Thank you for this one, Nancy. Bob

I can see why it would take all day. It was a lot to write and a lot to rhyme. Really well done. I love westerns, Tombstone is one of my favorites. This one is a keeper. =]
