Ciao Bello, Da'vid

I admire the high style and deep intellectual thought embedded in this exceptional sonnet. You've well captured the human element in this sonnet of life. The Bard would be most pleased with your penning of it.

I love the turn and the affirmation of the human spirit in the third quatrain. The closing couplet is superb.

Well done, my friend.

A six form my most limited arsenal of Stars for a most worthy sonnet and your return to the Site. You've been terribly missed by many.

Ray

Grazia, my friend, very much. I really appreciate your great review and your kind sentiment. It's nice to be somewhat back in the swing again. Thanks for that sixer.

Is the poet warrior an alter ego of the rogue. Take on the enemy whether man or dragon and save the fair damsels in the style of George Martin.

Thank you very much, Alan. I think you could say that, and I've been a big fan of Martin since long before the series. Great reference, my friend.

I have to ask. Based on some of the responses to your Friday posts. Does this poem have a double entendre? Checked out your reviews, and looks like I am the only suspicious one. At any rate, whether or not I am right or wrong, this is a well constructed poem with some wonderful phrasing.

Thanks so much, Dallas. I can certainly see why you'd ask that question, but it has no relation to those. If it had, it would have been the warrior standing over a bevy of dismembered bodies. :) I appreciate the review.

"When winter sleeves the earth with skins of frost"--Wow, how poetic! This is a very powerful sonnet David and the picture is perfect! More lines I love in the poem....
Such sweet beginnings led to bitter ends
When love was halved, and cast into the void.
Well done. Nancy

LOVE these bits:
So many friends are foes; old foes, now friends,
Alliances established, then destroyed.
Such sweet beginnings led to bitter ends
When love was halved, and cast into the void.

When winter sleeves the earth
with skins of frost-- A WOW!! line

Consider:
AGING warriors BATTLE IN THEIR BLOOD
Once more to reach VALHALLA-- 'fore I fall.

Loved the imagery.

Regards:

Thanks so much, Stephen. I appreciate it, my friend.

I'm not sure why I would change the couplet to what you suggest, however, as the warrior isn't Nordic, and the first line would be out of meter. I think I like it as it is, but I appreciate that you, like myself, always try to add value to the review by making suggestions.

This made me smile as I read it. I love the fight this poem brings. The fight that every poet that contiunes to write, think, and create. The lines of "So I will fetch my sword and breach the wall, Once more to reach my peak - before I fall"..powerful and amazing.

Oh very nice. You can write sonnets for me until I die and I will be here to read them. You have always had such a way with them that few can ever capture. I love this line, wish I had thought of it

When winter sleeves the earth with skins of frost

Nicely done, my friend.

Thank you, my friend, for that sixer and for your love of my sonnets. I do believe when I get home I may be ready to post your long-awaited love sonnet, too. It's marinated long enough, methinks.

Hi. It is so nice to have you back:-)
Once more into the breach my friends.
Oh, I need to read this when I am huddled in my corner drinking coffee and tired of the world.
Come now, on your feet, grab your sword...

Nobody does it like you. "Winter sleeves the earth" - that is sheer class! The sonnet richly deserves a six, but I don't have one, amigo. However, you have my respect and admiration.
