Sounds like you had some fun outings, until the pain hit. Long car rides will do that. I didn't know you worked for the government, but maybe you mentioned it before. I found no spag.

Thanks Sis. I am glad I only worked for the Government for half my working life...the last half. But I would not have met Louise otherwise. Appreciate the lovely review. Getting near the end now. Just got up real early to put the bins out I forgot last night! Sigh!

A very well-written chapter of your retirement. We do our best during our working life to please our employers and pay our taxes while we try to survive through life to be set free when we retire to start living and do what we enjoy doing.

Wow chapter is full of information and a few humerous parts and some sad parts. Why does your wife's family and friends seem so distant from her?

You did nice job with this one. I fought tooth and nail to get on disability in 1987. I was suffering from severe PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. Don't bother looking it up it is very confusing and most of it is wrong. It is good you both slowed down and can now enjoy each other company. I enjoyed this chapter very much.

Thanks Sasha getting complaints onnot enough trip details as you know from previous comments I did not want to tread on Louise's corns back then as she wrote about our trips. Might try and "Ghost Write" "Our Trips" Book in here later...if I am still here. Thanks again.

This was quite interesting to read. However, never having been to Australia, I think you could make this much more interesting by explaining the places and events more. They are your memories, but the point in writing them is let others enjoy the memories with you.

Thanks new friend. You are right, of course. I was trying not to tread on my wife's corns back when this was written. We did actually have two accounts on FS but had all sorts of trouble with both accounts. I may ghost write my wife's "Our Trips" book for more info later. Thanks for coming by. I guess you can tell I don't love FS completely. Cheers.

Sorry if this is a repeat....Hey did you see Tootsie55 account is open again trying to do reviews over there to build up some funny money. Cost me a lot in Aus$ to get the account up for an other year over there.

Sankey,

More of your life history. Very nice. I am sure that your close family members will find this to be a fascinating and treasured collection of memories. *smile* Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Robyn, I realize this is no best seller and I did do it as you have noted for family and friends of course. Much appreciate your first cab off the rank review. Getting closer to the end now. Had some really good reviews and working on more "Happy" as some have suggested hehe.

I had time to read this chapter this evening after all.

You and Louise are blessed to be able to travel during your retirement. You catalog it nicely in this chapter. In fact, it is more along the line of a travelogue, in my estimation.

I will make one suggestion to you, Sankey: Your chapter (perhaps this is the only one) is quite narrative heavy. Readers like to get involved with the characters, not have the author tell them everything that is happening. They want to be in the car with you and Louise, traveling here and there, not have the author telling them about it.

One way you do that is through dialogue. Another is bringing them into "close calls" or frustrations.

One frustration was when you and Louise wanted a hamburger, but the grill wasn't on because of a time difference. You had only one line of dialogue in that part (and the only dialogue in the entire chapter). If you extended that dialogue out between you and the waitress, or having to give your wife the "bad news".

In short, draw in the reader more.

You are a very good writer, Sankey. I'll look forward to reading more of your things.

Jay

Thanks Jay for coming by. I have a feeling you have reviewed my stuff before. I agree about more dialogue but bear in mind this is an autobiography. I know some people say even an autobiography should read like a novel or something but thanks anyway. Will see where we go with it. Some of these chapters were only recently inserted and I know I have a big book wide edit coming real soon. Cheers.

I hope you didn't take my review negatively. I've been writing, though, for close to 60 years, and I know that much of it is "playing tricks" on the reader, doing whatever you can to get him/her involved. Dialogue is the best way to do that. Your biggest asset (and I should have mentioned it in the review) is your easy-going, conversational style. It is endearingly powerful.

Thanks for that. A few have said exactly the same thing. I know Mikey (Michael Cahill who has been a good friend and one of the first I made in here has talked about Dialogue and a few others have. I do get some in in some places. See what I can do ok! Thanks again and no offence taken. As I said still a new boy at this writing stuff just done a year with FS and it feels good.

Hi Jay I wanted to tell you I had a review from Leonardo forget his last name on my First chapter of my book a whilagop and I initially 2was a bit hurt but then wehen I went back and went over all the help he had given I realised he had made some good points so no worries I do consider everything the reviewers say even if sometimes I don't apply the advice but you never know ok! Thanks again.

You can't go wrong by listening to the advise of Leonard Wise. He's published and an excellent writer.

This is really tight now. It's funny the more I read the more I want to know. There's a special thing about Australia, it's universally popular! So, where no one would be curious about details of the little desert town I live in, they sure would be curious to know what Woy Woy is like. What a great name. Where does the name come from, what's there, what does it look like etc. So, I think details like that would be of interest. Perhaps, you ran into along the way, little anecdotes and the like. We all love Australia, so I think you're safe to take your time on your trips. We like it there! All the critters running around there are unique to your land too. We have to go to the zoo to see them. The thought of a kangaroo hopping across the road at midnight is pretty thrilling stuff for me. Hahaha. I'd be out of the car gawking and Donna would be telling me to bring it home for a pet!! Somewhere in there you referred to a "whole lot of" hotels. That sounded like something I would say! Maybe a "host" of hotels perhaps. Good stuff. mikey

We3ll whole lot is our way of saying what you say host of hotels I already did a poem on some of the hosts hehe remember thanks mate will work on your thoughts. We avoid driving at night because the Kangaroos will wipe out your car5 at night mate. Woy Woy is an Aboriginal name. Will give you a bunch of aboriginal names to chew on. When are you and Donna coming over for a visit? Do you have some one to mind the pets and the residents while you come over for a break?

Is that really your retirement house? This is very interesting as it gives me a glimpse of your magnificent country.

So you eat hamburgers there too. Why did I think that was an American food. Silly me.

And Daylight Savings time? I thought only the USA was goofy enough to mess with the clock, I hate it.

Many of my trips were 'Near Death Experiences' due to bad planning on my part, so I relate to that as well.

Did you know this story is on the front page?
