This is a nice poem, however you skipped the 10 syllable line and the 8 syllable line coming back down. I'm afraid this will disqualify you. Like I said, I really did like the poem, it flowed well and gave a great visual in my head.

Guidelines for the pacing, meter count of the contest are met.
I might replace the picture - there are so many mining/rock pictures to choose from.
Bountiful hunt - brings crop harvest to mind; can you use a different word here?

Nice entry.
It is spelled quartz with a zee or zed, not an 's.'
Fool's gold as seen running through quartz has today been branded and is selling like hotcakes on the shopping channel, but even in your metaphor--there's nothing real about the glitter.
