I never had noticed but I enjoyed your observation and reflections. I also enjoyed the form and the repetitions for emphasis. Cheers- Joan

Hmmm...I wonder too. Excellent question. In constant supplication to the sky, do its limbs in its yearning draw the heat down or is it an inner reserve of life?

I just noticed this phenomena this past weekend. I've never noticed it before. Your poem is great. I'd like to think that everything is ready to "burst forth with life." Winter needs to go away!

This was great piece, but are not the trees symbolic of life and our struggles where the very base of us has to melt to create the warmth and humanity that is in us to bestow to the world. Just a thought, Tom.

A very astute discovery and clever reasoning as to the cause of this phenomena.
It is amazing just how much our curious eyes can notice if we really look.
Thankfully for the north it seems spring is finally arriving.
Very well written in a Tanka style with refrain which enhances the reader curiosity and interest.

I can't say I wonder I see it every year for four to five months the bigger the circle the warmer it gets and I see the light of Spring coming through. Then the Robins then I know what's coming next! Love the picture though you have a long way for Spring yet. Take care and stay warm.

A lovely thoughtful poem Tom. I suspect that as the tree sheds its leaves, making its bed for winter, so like a compost heap the leaves generate heat

Really sweet poem

kind regards
trimple:)

I have never noticed that about trees. I know they cool the air in the summer though. . now I cannot wait until winter to see this. . .

Dear Tom - ok now you have me wondering and so off I went to look at my oaks and poof yup they look like that too. Haven't ever pondered that, don't know the answer but still the great part of your poem is the extension as it pushed outside the boundaries of the poem itself.
Fascinating thought to ponder too. Makes me wonder what else I missed:)
Thanks for sharing it.
Maureen
