What a lovely poem to start the day. Very calming and beautifully penned.

The flow was smooth and very enjoyable. The photo is gorgeous. Is it one that you took?

This is an interesting poem from the author in this piece of writing. I dream about sailing off into the sunset as well. I applied for the merchant navy when I was at school, but I was colour blind, but I have never given up my dream to sail. Maybe some day I will.

Thank you for the great review, Tomes. I'm glad you liked the piece. It's actually more of a metaphor for writing than sailing, though. I really appreciate the generous stars, T.

'"The Empty Sails".' An excellent poem you have crafted here with a lot of thought that have gone into the structure which I found neatly partitioned. Well done.

This is a lovely sonnet my friend, great images with solid sonnet form...its both dreamy as well as sharing the story part of the sonnet - it's smooth as silk.
Exceptional job on this one.
Thanks for sharing it and good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for the fantastic review, Maureen. Sorry about the late reply. I work at night and only have a couple hours to be on here and the last couple days I guess the site's been doing maintenance so I couldn't send any replies. I dearly appreciate the gracious sixer and good luck wishes, M. I'm humbled. I'm glad you liked the piece. Thank you again.

Beneath the subtle dawn I raise the sails
to catch the vibrant wind my muse creates.
I'll follow any path the course unveils
and welcome every treasure that awaits.

This is a beautifully crafted sonnet. I enjoyed it very much.
Best wishes in the contest.

What a lovely sonnet! 1. It rhymes and yet still has the components of a Shakespearean sonnet. 2. It can be about sailing but a metaphor as well. 3. It made me smile. Beautiful picture too. Did you take it?

Beautiful sonnet. Lyrical in flow and musical in phonetics, too...especially the consonance of S in all lines! Well cadenced with flawless meter and great rhyming.

The tone and tenor of the first two stanzas is so tranquil, with lovely imagery, so that the contrapuntal effect of the volta is made more potent by being more polar. Well orchestrated!

I found the volta stanza particularly eloquent and well crafted:

But on caressing waves my vessel sways,
I float amid the stillness of the dawn.
Too often come these woes of windless days
while pondering where inspiration's gone.

Excellent closing couplet (so sad and not 'a-muse-zing'):

I dream of distant shores beneath the mast
as sadly, once again, the anchor's cast.

Your muse's anchor was not yet cast when you penned THIS, though, methinks!

Bravo

Warmly, rd

PS A nice presentation too.

A well written poem about connecting metaphorical sailing, with the capturing of inspiration. Almost like conjuring up a favourable breeze! It is very similar in its flighty sameness! One doesn't know from what or whom our inspiration to write comes, or indeed, to know from whence the wind will blow! Well rhymed, good rhythm and inspired sonnet with exquisite language! Well done. Roy.

Your poem about sailing gives me the same feeling as when I fly, then I have this sense of adventure, and a happiness that's there. Even in the aftermath when I see pictures of others in flight, I get good vibes. The sea is vast, also creates a feeling of freedom. But then we must all return to reality when 'the anchor's cast.' WELL DONE! Les
