This was a very well written, and emotional poem. I am also a veteran, but was blessed to never experienced combat. I do have family members, including my wife, who were in Iraq. I hear stories today of what those days were like, and I give them my utmost respect for their service. Well written.

Thanks for your service all the same, in777. I also come from a military family, so I have several relatives in each of the American wars. Many thanks, my friend.

Author: you are right. . .statues, walls, monuments, epic adventures, movies, TV specials, medals, Presidential proclamations. . .none of those truly allow us to know what a soldier of war has felt, experienced and what remains forever within their memories and souls. I think it is because there just are no words to explain the breath, width and pain. You have made a good gesture toward informing us and I congratulate you on this. livelylinda

I love this, David. It spells out the memories of those who have fought and bled for their country, and the eternal toll it takes on them. Congrats on another great poem.
