We where in Washington DC, July 4th, last year. We visited Arlington and were deeply moved by our visit.
This is an excellent piece! A wonderful tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our sakes! (My father was a WWII vet, my brother a Vietnam vet.)
This poetic tribute flowed beautifully off the "pen"', The descriptive language was illuminating and image creating! The abab rhyming was sound and the rhythm tight! Well done. Roy.

Thank you so much, Roy. I've spent Memorial and July 4th there, too, and you're so right about the emotional reaction it elicits. I really appreciate your kind words, Roy, and your own family history. I had three in Iraq, two in Afghanistan, two in Vietnam, one in Korea, and ten in WWII. Your thoughts are appreciated.

A great tribute big M. I have worked in the past with ex soldiers that can't come to terms with what they have experienced. My late father was diverted on his way to Korea to Malaya, he and his Scottish regiment witnesses unbelievable cruelty and violence... from both sides... and I know it changed his life forever. War is Hell. It is a glimpse of horrors that none living should ever have to see. Each bold campaign is like a boil - something full of pus that festers and swells until something is done to make it erupt, spilling its corruption everywhere. When it's done, it leaves us with a scar and unpleasant memories. Only war is worse.
This is such a sobering poem for and about the young men and women who are so gravely touched by war. You do them a great service in honouring them so.
For what they do, all we can offer is our paltry thanks.
