Hello Sankey. I wholeheartedly agree that it is a dilemma to choose between reading, reviewing, and writing. Somewhere there is a balance, but I have not found it yet. Thanks for the humorous read.

Yeah there is a balance to everything for sure. Glad when we find it. I have always said...."read, review, write, promote." I am so glad I have passed the time of paying for promotions!

As a poem writer, I'm not very good. For one, I have found it takes a good grip on grammar which I'm working on today. The stories I've written to date took more work than normal. Nevertheless, you are a good writer and I enjoyed this poem.

bro I love reading novels and prose even more so than some poems. I hate these short poems that want you to do great big reviews. Thanks for coming by.

You're welcome.

Thanks Sis glad I caught some of you oldies that may not have seen this on the first round.

You're right about the choices we have to make on FS. There's a lot of good writing here. I enjoyed the poem because I have considered these things myself on several occasions. Robert

Yep Robert for a long time I have held to the order in here of "reading writing, reviewing promoting" That way you may avoid having to actually PAY your own money to promote your work.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

It's a question of how you allot your time :). Promoting is not such a big deal as you are simply paying for the feedback to move you up. It's not the same thing when you deal with true publishing companies as they call a spade a spade with no punches pulled UNLESS it is self-publishing as it is their job to get you to write that check LOL. Congrats on having finished your book and I hope it does well for you. This is well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Thanks for coming by. I am glad some of you longer time members have come through on this ancient poem. I wrote th8is to encourage more people to review stuff. Some spend all their time on contests and writing and never do much reviewing. After all reviewing is supposed to help writers. I find there are far too many professionals in FS it should have been for amateurs to get help and the professionals should move on or hang around and help newbys.

I think I'm the only one on FanStory that's a new writer. Most everyone is like you Geoff, a seasoned sage. Congratulations on your published works. I'll have to check it out once it hits the market. I'd love to get a signed copy. I have a signed copy from Mastery and Ben Colder. Sending you and Louise my best today as always,

I know the not wanting to sleep thing because of this. I usually post right before I go to bed, I do this to punish myself for something I swear, because then I lay awake waiting for the first couple reviews. If there is something wrong I want to fix it right away because I don't want it kept that way for a bunch of people to tell me the same things...but I need to go to bed. lol

Oh, the struggles of life ...
LOL!
I truly hope this is the extent of the problems you face, Sankey. ;-) Since joining FS, I am in a similar boat, I must say. Actually, yes and no. The Galapagos Agenda is not something that I'm currently writing, but rather in the last stage of its revision so all I am doing there is posting what I already have, and then copy-pasting all the comments and reviews to my file to go over the entire manuscript in one go.
Because when writing novels, it's hard to get interrupted repeatedly, so what I do is take a certain time for reviews--to fulfill my dues in helping others--and this gives me enough mental tranquility to make up for my having posted.
Then I just finished that screenplay, which because it was on a deadline, I simply could not stop working on and needed to fulfill a given quota per day to make it. Now I'm about to go back to the second novel in the series I'm calling Survival of the Fittest or The Galapagos Cycle. I got about 100 pages done, and had to stop working on it for a full month now, in order to get all the other stuff in my life going.
But as of this week I need to get back to that, too. But knowing that people like you are actually devoted to FS reviewing, actually has given me a great relief, because the novel is going through many eyes and they can all catch those creeping snags, which seem determined to escape my otherwise eagle eye for such things.
So, my advise in reply to your piece above (no snags, there) is that your reviewing on FS is helping others, and probably while doing so also helping yourself catch what turn out to be regular mistakes, which you then won't be doing! (We hope.)
I do hope, though, that you can find the time to work on your novel, giving you periods of time where you should probably have nothing open but the file you are working on so as to avoid getting FS messages.

Wonderful piece of work, Sankey! A little tongue in cheek, but also pointed and true. Your experience of fs is certainly well documented here, my friend. All the reviewing and replying does get in the way of writing! I enjoyed this. Thanks. Antoine.

Oh, how you made me smile, Geoff!
I'm still smiling as I write. This is such a sweet, smiley poem and echoes the thoughts in pretty much every Fanstorian's heart, I'm sure!
Have a blessed week, friend. :)
