There is a Peter Pan residing in every grown man, I think!
I love true stories, because they are ... true! The reader feels as if he/she is able to reach out and touch a part of the writer's heart.
That must have been an ordeal for the little Geoff, though.
It must have been such fun singing on a favourite show. I remember being invited to recite a poem on the Punch and Judy show - a radio program - when I was 8. How chuffed I was!
All the best in the contest, my friend. :0
Bless you!
Sonali :)
After about a half hour drive(,) we arrived at the "AWA" Building
Some years later(,) I got to visit the Concord Hospital,

This story sounds a little like one of my sons used to be when he was young. When something scared him. He went head first time into it the next time. He had a blast the second time around. Great work. Good luck with the contest.

....Smiling... I remembered the first time I entered an elevator; I was really nervous. Yours was when you were a kid, mine is as an adult. So mine is ludicrous than yours.
I love the way you expressed yourself in this piece.
Good luck.

Loved your story; so innocent about the world...Sydney has been my favorite city in the whole world of my travels, better than London or Paris, well, except for NYC, I suppose. But I loved how the school children used the city as a museum dressed in all their plaid uniforms. we saw them everywhere and none were on a cell phone, delightful.

Thanks Maggie don't think I am gonna win anything but I enjoyed bringing back the memories. All our High and Middle School children wear uniforms in most part s of Australia. I am not even aware that any high schools even Independent ones allow just casual wear.

I was there in 2007 and I felt like I was in Portland or Seattle 25 years ago with the innocence and delight of the school children. Sadly, we do not see this anywhere in our cities anymore, if ever because we have no dress code in public schools. I was a teacher for over 30 years, so I have seen it all.

Believe you me, sadly our youngsters are getting older way too young these days. access toalcohol and drugs very young and built up bras for 6 yr olds goodness.

This is a sweet, nostalgic story from your childhood. You have told it very well and it brings back memories of my own. Although not left on an elevator, I too, went to a radio show on my 5th birthday. It was called the Uncle Whoa Bill show and I sang a little song for him.I enjoyed your story very much.

good luck in the contest
your words allow the reader to see and feel the ordeal as an eight year old of how frightened you where when the lift doors close and not knowing then that if you where not quick enough to exit this is what happen so panic set in
in later years you found the lifts to be a fun thing
flows easy read
cheers SC

For all of us who have been stuck on an elevator, we relate to your story and the panic you felt. you described that feeling and the situation very well. I am glad you made it to your group on time.

Thanks for the review. It was a loooong time ago now hehe. But obviously even after more than 50 years I still remember it so it must have been traumatic at the time, hehe.

I think sometimes elevators have a mind of their own. Maybe they like playing tricks and have a good chuckle afterward. QUite an interesting story. Thanks for sharing.

Just asking...are you British? I'm not sure (if you are British) if where you live, people spell program like 'programme'. So I wasn't sure about that but I enjoyed the story of you learning about elevators for the first time especially since you had no idea what was going on. Keep writing!
