Now that is a tasty surprise. Perfect ending. Just goes to prove fiction does not have to be lengthy to whet the appetite....hard to believe that the meat of this write is found in the last six sentences.

You know Alice, I do love the twists in flash. It really is like fishing, trolling slowly up the river, bringing the reader along for the lazy ride, then throwing in the twist, like the snap of the rod, when the bait is taken.

Thanks for the stars. Happy New Year.

Hi Ingrid,
I had no idea this was going to end up a human banquet or even a science project... and if you are going to do an alien thing, then to add in Roswell was a no brainer... great little story with heaps of syntax... did I just give it away? I knew I should have stayed away from using that word too many times.

I'm not sure if this contest has finished or not as I'm all over the shop at the moment, but by any chance it isn't... all the best.

With our thoughts we create,
meals with eyes,
James xx

This prompt was sponsored by a member who wants to give her preacher, a sci-fi lover, some original stories. The rules called for no sex or cussing, sooooo, I'm pretty sure procreation for the sake of sustaining a higher species isn't graphic, is it? LOL. I had fun writing this. The occasional gross factor amuses me. Still time to enter James.

I'm not whether to laugh, like I am now or be somewhat disgusted as my mind is leaning that way as I'm writing this. The story had a good flow and moved along nicely. For some reason I began thinking "abuse". I'm thankful it did not go that route.
Nicely composed and a good twist for an ending. John

If its any validation to your laughter, I too laughed when I served up Fred as a main course--looking for a gross-out element after the white picket fence routine. Thanks for reading. congrats on your ranking.

Thanks for the congrats... It's not easy. This year my focus will be on kids stories and pursuing getting something published (with Gods help). Also writing s baseball story geared towards kids with a specific meaning. We'll see. Thank you affinity...

This right out of a SciFi novel. Very good imagination to write like this. So the family were the livestock for a project in a distant planet. Their menu takes the cake.
Excellent!
Happy Yew Year!

Hi, Spiritual Echo.
This is a great sci-fi mystery. Your characters are well plotted, and great use of dialogue. I like the connection to Roswell and the altered universe. The dinner selection sounds quiet tasty. LOL
Best of luck in the contest.

Happy New Year!

You really had me here. I kept thinking, as I suspect I was meant to, that this has no sci fi base. It was an interesting family drama of resolving life situations. But, the alien homework project on the stock was a completely 'out of no-where'. I had to laugh at the 'slice of Fred' scene. Great flas, great sci fi.

Tsk, tsk, I gave you a hint with the Roswell title and the New Mexico location...LOL...and I'm glad my gentle tug into family dynamics worked. Love these twists in flash when I can come up with an idea. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year.

The hints were foreign to me in Australia, but being in the dark longer made it a bigger surprise.

Oh geeze, you're so right. check it out on google. It's also called area 51 (I think) but it was and still is believed the US air force captured a UFO and held aliens at the base. There are tons of pictures on line if you type in Roswell.

Excellent entry, and best of luck in the contest. The title "Roswell's Bounty" kind of gives a clue. (Plus we've been watching reruns of" X-Files") The inexplicable pregnancies are an interesting angle. Dana's suspicious of aliens, but Bill puts her off with "there are no aliens at Roswell." 4-H clubs on a faraway galaxy? Who would have thought. Another interesting angle to your story. You bring in just enough characterization and dialogue to suit the story. judi

Thanks. Do you suppose the preacher will be offended by procreation. Prompt said no sex, but I convinced myself that with no focus on the act, childbirth seemed perfectly normal. Thanks for reading.
reply by judiverse on 31-Dec-2013
You're welcome. Don't see how anything about the prompt that should offend. No objectionable language. judi

Very well written. I reminds me a little of the forgotten. Great job, it has that X-files mystery feel up until the very end. A strong contender.
