You appear to have led a very full and iteresting life.
Politics-no less.
Your account of alliances with chosen political parties and the frustrations you felt would ring true for many of your generation.
Health and family are always paramount and somehow politics always seem such a stressful interest to be fully involved in.

Very interesting subject. Let's see if I have this right. In Australia, Liberal Party equals Conservative! Sometimes labels are confusing. Anyhow, it was informative to read that. I should have thought your group would have welcomed those who didn't drink. You're right about having to compromise. Unfortunately, those who compromise and go along to get along aren't the ones who accomplish things. You must be well thought of to be asked to run for office but wise to realize your health limitations. Some candidates don't. Again, I admire your natural story-telling style. judi

Thanks mate appreciate your review. The Christian Democrats are a small Political group compared to others and we knew I would never had been elected anyway. After all going against all the big boys (The Liberals and the DEMOCRAP kind hehe)

You are most welcome! Yes, interesting stuff. I had no idea about the twist. Liberal isn't liberal and all that. Funny though we come to about the same conclusion!! I know my own fellows sure disappointed me many a time. The treatment of the soldiers coming home from Vietnam being one very embarrassing moment that I wish I wasn't associated with. Looking at it today. They're all a bunch of do nothings, my side included. Great stuff here. Interesting the pressures to get drunk and be a fool no matter what side of the fence. hahaha! I guess stupid isn't a political choice then. ha! mikey

Yeah well as I told you some time back our Normie Rowe the pop star was a "conscientious objector" to the Vietnam war. He as were all the other Vietnam Vets were spat on and all that on their return home. Thanks for the review mate.

I am not a conservative voter, nor am I a big fan of John Howard, but I respect your right to whatever choice you make. What I do agree with you about is the realization that the real changes that matter, emerge from the human heart. Like you, I am Christian, and hence look to the spirit to guide and guard me. People are on earth for a short period in terms of universal time, but they have the opportunity to live their lives well or poorly. This includes making political choices, but more importantly personal choices to live in a particular way. Following Christ is a wonderful way to live lovingly and positively in your lifetime. I'm sorry for raving on, but your piece got me thinking.

i remained a member of the Liberal Party, until around 1987. I am still a conservative voter.
However, I had come to realize in later years, the only way for man to change is not by his
political alliances, but by a change in his or her heart, by the working of God's Holy Spirit, that can only happen when we accept what Christ did on Calvary for us once and for all, over 2000 years ago.

Well written. Good work overall! look forward to seeing more!

Things politically have gotten so messy and so deceptive or at least it has in America. We never really get to vote for who is best for our country. We vote for who has the most money to put on the best show, unfortunately. Very interesting piece. God loves you and we do too.

Same here for sure. We have a new government but the old crowd still thinks they knew better...wonder why the electorate voted them out huh! At least here (I hope) we don't have dead people's votes being counted so these scurrilous people can win every time. Thanks Janey hope Sis Evelyn is doing better. Appreciate your dropping by.

I went back and forth on this a bit. On the first pass it seemed to be a bit wandering like following a meandering river. Going back through it I put on a new set of eyes and could sense you are writing this as if you are telling the story to a neighbor over the back fence. In that light, I think this is a lovely narrative and seems to speak true to who you are as a person. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
