A very thoughtful and reflective poem on pregnancy and the special needs of mother and baby at this time.
Human life is very special but none more so than the defenceless unborn child.
lovely presentation and a subject choice well worthy of this thoughtful poem.

Wow, Tom. This is VERY powerful. Well done with so few words. I love how you begin and end with the same admonition. I love how you treat the child as a true human being. I just helped in the writing of "Souls on Ice" w/ forward by Mike Huckabee, available now on Amazon. It is about Embryo Adoption. Very interesting and proof that life begins at conception. May God bless you as you continue to write!

Thank you Arlene. I agree that they are humanbeings. I too have written on the subject of abortion.

Exceptional-A great message to be heeded by any one engaging in awesome natural passion. Well stated all the way with no bias only asking that those engaging be mindful of their deed.
And to have the first and second stanzas the same, totally reinforces the message.

I "paid heed" even at my advanced age and admired your format, along with your appealing rhymes and repeat. I enjoyed your carefully selected word like "blooms," "sheaf," "saint/thief" and "commonwealth". Cheers and enjoy the best holiday of the year- Joan

Hi, Treischel,
This is an excellent poem with good meter and rhyme and a good rhyme scheme followed consistently. It has good figurative language and imagery. It has excellent unconventional structure. It offers excellent advice.

Hi Tom,
Having had three pregnancies, and three wonderful children, I can appreciate this poem, yes their is much a woman must do to carry and birth a healthy child...sadly though for some, it's not always possible...
Indeed a mother must be careful what she eats, drinks, and should not smoke...but it's also a must that a husband/lover should do his part to see that some of those things can be accomplished....
A woman does not get pregnant alone, and as they both engage in their physical needs, the man must also own up to his responsibility.
How very often that is not the case...
I agree with the woman's responsibility while carrying a child....but there is some that also goes with the man!
The most important thought I can add here, is this...Woman must realize, especially if she is single, that using protection is their safest way of not getting pregnant...some men are quick to forget those moments of ecstasy...and feel absolutely nothing afterwards..
Thanks for sharing this thoughtful message with us,
Hugs,
Victoria

Thank you Victoria for your excellent comments and, yes, I totally agree that the man has responsibility too. That's why I addresses it to both, and mentioned the feelings of anger and pain.
You're quite welcome, I mentioned the man, mainly because there are so many single parents, (female) out there and I wish they would be more thoughtful....

A poignant message, Tom
A well-crafted metered poem expressing imperative thoughts many parents-to-be do not heed;
I concur--I have witnessed pregnant women with cigarette in hand--one of my friends smoked during her entire pregnancy;
What is done today cannot be undone tomorrow.

The photo is excellent and complements your poem very well. I liked how you wrote a baby in the womb and after needs to get proper care.

A complete truism. There appears to be no care of some mothers indulging in all these harmful substances in their hedonistic pleasure at the expense of the innocent unborn child. Well done.

Yet another poignant tale stated so poetically. As I said before, there's apparently no subject you can spin a poem about. You are, indeed, a master poet. The message here is on target.
