Hey Tom,
You outdid yourself on this. I was expecting a poem about a carnival ride. You roped me in with the first stanza. Your talent shines with this poem.

Every line flows, even with such exacting restrictions.
I identified with this poem on a very deep level. Maybe we don't "get it" until we have snow on the roof!

I totally respect and enjoy your God-given talent. Thank you for sharing... and sharing... and sharing!

I don't have time to read your poems every day, but anticipate every one!

Thanks again, Arlene

I agree entirely with the thoughts in the author notes, Tom.

It's amazing how the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune can change one's circumstances overnight.

The point is .. joy is a state of mind - no matter what!

Love the pic. It's perfect for the write.

Very philosophic roller coaster. You are right, sometimes the rides are far to brief. Highs, lows, steep drops- tell you the truth, I can't stomach the rides much anymore. Inner ear problems and even the coasters I used to love make me nauseous.

What a clever format and cetainly used well in this poem.

Your subject choice was well suited to this style and the syllable format reminded me of the Giant Drop ride at Seaworld in OZ.

This poem appeals to me. It really does bring home the reality that life is too short which it is filled with momentary pleasures and sadness. Well done.

I can relate--one of my shortest poems is in "Pieces of Her Mind": life/ is too/ sprint

Thank you for sharing another form and stretching yourself by using it to describe life's "ride". I enjoyed your rhymes and your photo brought back memories of a trip to this extraordinary mall some years ago. Cheers- Joan

Hi, Treischel,
This is an excellent Eleven77 poem with the required line syllable count and rhyme and refrain.It has excellent rhythm and excellent unconventional, visually pleasing structure. I believe it characterizes one of life's truths.

Looks like a thrilling ride, Tom!
Indeed, life very much parellels the thrills of amusement park attractions;
Great rewards do not last long;
Heartache seems to last forever.
The Eleven77 format imitates the coaster ride.

Clever idea for a poetry form and you piece fits the requirements well without sounding awkward or forced. I like how the poem uses something well known to relate life experience.
