My parents have an animal cemetery in their yard. They have two dogs, a rabbit and a guinea pig. I feel bad for whoever get the house after them and finds all the little bones.
Your mother was raised in the time where you didn't talk about your illnesses and stuff much. Even my dad, if he ever got cancer or something I don't think he'd tell us. Hell, he may not even tell my mom. Some people are just like that
My mom likes to cemetery hunt. I've spent so many hours at cemeteries and I also have some fun outhouse stories because of it.

Wow, did this bring back memories...I was a farm girl and I've had so many pets...horses too. It hurts deeply when they go, no matter the circumstances. Just a week or so ago, I had to put our old mare Princess down. She was injured somehow and the nerves in her back end quit on her. I feel just awful. One horse left. One dog. Three cats. When they're gone, no more. Just getting too old and tired. And sad. I loved this post and thank you for sharing this part of your life! Susan

Thanks friend for the lovely review. Some horses recently got burned in some bush fires here. They are still alive but will need serious care and treatment. I can tell their owners are devastated.

Oh they're suffering so...that's awful. Wow...our horse suffered longer than necessary as I didn't see her until almost dark. She'd made a circle in the mud spinning on her hips and pushing with her front legs trying to get up. Oh here I go crying... :/

You seemed like a very smart kid.. ....And then in the 50's...before the computer age... kids were more self-sufficient...Some better than others because they had to be, like you were...So sorry about your father, leaving and your Mum and siblings having to put up with so much. I know we all have a journey & what we endure teaches us to be stronger to tackle the next bump in the road. Though the younger when big awful events happen... we just have to become stronger to deal with it, and know your Nana & others helped somewhat in that way. .
I did the same thing ....eating if front of the TV...It was a fun thing to do, though usually it was by myself....And was scolded more than once by my mom because it was in the living room and our meals were in the kitchen...Though, my mom eventually got a liking to the TV and she got a portable television set that could be wheeled in the kitchen & her bedroom. I guess then & there...along with the radio were convenient man-made escapes to all help us cope, young & old by taking our young minds, and our mothers to a different world for a time. ..And now there is the Internet, that can be so over-powering that is now apart of everyday life for most. Though like you, I loved being outside and had cats & still do & a couple of dogs, that are special companions of childhood,....Pinny, your beloved cat, reminds me of my current pet cat, Amber, except she isn't a Persian, though like him she is a people cat & with a great personality.
Oh, had a sister that was almost 10 yrs older than me.....And was an Auntie at 9 yrs old......No brothers though, just another sis, 4 yrs older. Also, I took up accordion lessons...from neighbor next door... though hated it because it was so darn heavy that instrument, especially for a girl...I did it...though, because my parents wanted me too more than I enjoyed it.
God Bless & Thanks for sharing & your story kept my interest...Caressa_08

Thanks friend. Yeah I bought a heavier accordion much later. I sold it before I left work in 1997. The guy I bought it from recently asked me if I still had it he wanted to buy it back from me as it was his wife's who is now passed on and he wanted it for a memorial to her. I was sad to tell him it is long gone. Thanks for reading the non rewarded chapter. Unless it did still have some hehe.

Hi, I'm enjoying reading your story and about life in Australia. Although, my heart breaks for Timmy and Pinny. I don't like anything bad to happen to animals.

It's wonderful that you have all those pictures. They help keep the memories alive for you. Excellent story-telling voice. It's great to reminisce about your animals. I had one cat that would consent to ride in a baby buggy. We always had a family dog when I was a kid, usually a collie because we lived on a farm. You cover so many different things. Maybe you could group them together (as the stories about your pets together.) Interesting about what happened with your music teacher. judi

Hi Sis, actually I originally wrote the book in sort of sets like Born, Animals, Weekender, School, Music, church....then I decided way back to re-write it again in sequence. So I did do what you said, but decided sequence of history and events was better. To each his or her own I guess. Thanks for coming by been shut out due to a local server problem all morning.

I used to play games with my grandma and grandpa. We had so much fun. I still play games with my boys when we all get together. I hope they will instill fond memories in them and their children. I am really enjoying your memories.

Very well written and quite the musical child at heart. Who did you take that after, mom or dad?
Love the stories of the animals as you put your heart into telling the stories.

Well , Barb, possibly both of them. Dad played piano, never taught though Mum, as you will see in some places won prizes in Harmonica playing. Working hard to get more member dollars up so I can get more old chapters that have been edited up for further reviews. Getting some new ideas from folks as well so we may be a while getting to publishing yet. Thanks, again!

Great start to the full book Dr Sankey. I enjoyed your journey down memory lane. Raymond (partner) always says I retell stories over and over and he could quote them back to me. I haven't got a lot of memories of home life so that's that. You on the other hand have. So tell the whole world!

A very well-written chapter. Our childhood pets will always have a special place in our hearts and memories. I only had one dog that was accidentally run over by my uncle when he came for a visit. Thereafter we move to town and my mother refuse that we have any other pets.
