I loved reading this chapter. I grew up Catholic and have attended many different churches in my time. I got to experience the Southern Baptists when I went to the Marines since they offered a ride to service each weekend. I've been to Lutheran, Methodist, and the non-denominational Christian services. The place I go now is non-denominational, but I tend to miss the old organ music and the teachings in the Apocrypha.

Oh, one thing for you, Sankey. The book you mentioned of Violet Sullivan's is called "Bible Teaching Made Easy." The National Library of Australia has a copy that can be requested as does a few other libraries in Australia. I looked it up for fun because I love reading and searching for books. Looks like it may have been reprinted around the 1970's and possibly once again in 2015. No copies are available on the market here in the states though. I'd have to do some super digging to find a copy if I was to dip into the Australian market. Anyway, I love the challenge of finding books.

I grew up in a Lutheran Church but now attend a Non-Denominational. I love it. We do baptism's. We love baptisms. We have like a dedication Sunday if you want to commit to bringing your child to church and so on. But I think they only do that one Sunday a year or something. You can do it if you want but it's not a huge thing like baptism is. But our baptisms are for children or adults who are choosing to be with God. I think I'd call the one where people sprinkle water on the baby's head a dedication. You're dedicating your time and effort to bring the child into a Godly home and environment, right? It is crazy how many different religions there are and all the different things each one does.

Hi Geoff, very interesting about the baptism and no preaching on it in the non-denominational church. I go to a non-denomination and we do full immersion baptism.

Yeah Sis In know there are both here. One of the churches I know of now called Condell Park Bible Church is Non Denom but always did Total Immersion baptism. I understand from an old friend from my original church the reason for not preaching on Baptism either kind was if they did they would have to do both Immersion and Sprinkling because their original make up was of some baptist and Some methodist families. I even had someone on here arguing about my stand on baptismal Regeneration if you remember that. I brought up about the thief on the Cross who had no water to be baptised but Jesus sao=id 'This day shalt thouj be with me in paradise" ha.

This was an interesting read, as we all have a different story to tell. And, yours seem quite a good one to being raised around a church that seemed a wholesome way to grow up in a Christian surroundings that I know influenced you greatly throughout your adulthood.

Thanks for sharing and too the photos...Caressa_08

Thanks Caressa. If you hurry back and you haven't looked again there are still some rewards on earlier re-edited chapters. I had big help from a new friend in here with a lot of spags in this chapter so glad you are coming along post-fix, hehe. I added a new chapter for an Introduction if you have not read that sorry rewards have run out. cheers.

I am not trying to be a meanie, but I take reviewing seriously. Please remember four stars does not mean a work is bad, just that it needs work. This work has a number of errors. here are some:

"I was a part of my very first  Sunday School as a beginner from age 3 or 4, maybe on and off, at first. Later, after Mum started going, when I was 8, to 'Marsfield Mission' (Now known for a number of years as "Marsfield Community Church" - which recently celebrated its 80th Anniversary.)" Both of these opening statements suffer from ambiguity. 'I was a part of my very first summer school..." Of course you were. Imagine if one write, "I was a part of my family when I was 3 or 4..." It is a statement that goes without saying - so why say it? It leads one to think you were trying to say or express something else but failed to do so, or was thinking something more explicit and that confuses the reader. The second sentence is equally ambiguous. "Later, after Mum started going, when I was 8, to 'Marsfield Mission' (Now known for a number of years as "Marsfield Community Church" - which recently celebrated its 80th Anniversary.)" Let's drop the parenthesis since they only elaborate on the Mission's name...
"Later, after Mum started going, when I was 8, to 'Marsfield Mission'..." This sentence is clearly ambiguous because it is incomplete; it dangles like a participle. "Later, when Mum started going..." Well? What happened later?

"In another chapter I may have mentioned my Mother's gift of playing the Harmonica or Mouth Organ." Why is harmonica and mouth organ capitalized? there are other words that are capitalized that shouldn't be.

"We felt like she was like the ship's Captain with her binoculars, looking out her kitchen window and shock horror!" Another incomplete and dangling sentence.

This "nnon-denominational" (Misspelled non)

"They were a brother and sister (siblings) from the same family I knew from when I was about 10." Why is siblings included and in parenthesis? If they are brother and sister from the same family - of course they are siblings. This becomes unnecessary redundancy. As an example, consider this exaggeration, "My father and my mother (who were married) had four children together, and we were all brothers and sisters, who had the same mother and father."

"...a combined congregation of formerly Methodit and Baptist folk," Methodist spelled incorrectly.

As I said, I take reviewing seriously, and I am hoping to point out things other may not bother to mention. I hope you understand. Thanks.

Thanks very much. My reason for running this through was to pick up any more errors I missed. I recently re-edited this book due to warnings about Grammarly and its lack of direction with commas particularly and I also know as an Aussie it still goes off even though I have it set for British English and still suggests American spelling for example, of programme and realize - just for starters. I do give a warning to American readers about my English spelling in the new "Introduction" chapter I added to this edition. Unfortunately, the rewards have run out and I am nearly run out of Member dollars myself. Sorry for the long explanation, I do appreciate your help. If you are new to FS you may not have come upon the dreadful ???AAAA thingies which are FS furphy's NOT the writer's fault but I still appreciate the pick up on these. I hope I can get you to come back and look again after I fix up what is an awful mess for some unknown reason.

I appreciate the gracious response. I also have considered getting FanStory to place a "flag" with each person's image so people will know at once if the work is of American, English or Aussie vernacular because there are often times confusions if a person assumes the writer is an American.

AMEn how true you are, my friend. It has cost me points for not being 'perfect' ie Amurrikan at times. Even as to the4 sound of how words are spelled particularly with the Rednecks or Deep Saouth, ya'll. I am in the middle of correcting the chapter you reviewd bear with me it is supper or tea time here. Will come back to it. By the way the Fs ???AAAA's were only on your review they were not shoWing on the edit version of my chapter funny that. Good suggestion about the Flag. Bring that to Tom's attention.

Hi again! I have now done a big clean up and some changes to this chapter. I hope you are happier and willing to upgrade the rating after you read this again, thanks. I should point out (and I have now changed that area) where I talked about the 'brother and sister (siblings) I was referring to the fact they were my Brother and Sister in the Faith...that is why I added 'siblings' as they were also of the same parentage. But I have changed it for now anyway.

Much better, Sankey. If anyone give you a bad review after this, let me know and I chew their butt! LOL. I have upgraded the review from 4 to 5 stars. I appreciate your patience and graciousness.

This episode is informative, more so in that it touches on "Non-Denominational" church. I presume this to be an open and free house of worship. However, no objections if this was all for the spiritual development of the church-goers.

Such joy reminiscing the memories of these times past. It is like opening the pages of a mental scrapbook.

The author looks slick and suave in the photo and bearing a pastor's pose I presume.

This is a nice chapter, not so long ago I had this in Sunday School that people should keep focus on the word not the messenger. In other words churches can crumble because people are distracted away from the word of God,
and I am a Methodist (A.M.E.).
Churches do have rules and regulations and I guess life has to fit into it. People today are trying to make church fit around what they believe.

It is a nice Christian story about over the years. Do you have some important facts in your the church's history book where people can look at it down the road and see how you have progressed.

Churches need more people today to stick with them and be a good use.

Good luck with your book.

Thanks friend. Appreciate you dropping in. Seems we have some stuff in commons. Actually in Australia there is no Methodist Church now. The Methodist Denomination was the only one that more or less wholly went into the new 'Uniting" Denomination back at the end of the 70's I think it was. Any that wanted to remain independent became 'Wesleyans' either for doctrinal reasons for just plan property reasons. My old church now Marsfield Community has changed a lot since the old days. We attended the 70th Anniversary but I cold not make the 80th, which was last year from memory. This chaopter was originally over in the back with other more recent stuff about our church involvement. I agree with your comment about people making churches fit around their own beliefs. All part of the end times my friend people are starting to church hop and skip church and not really stand for anything much these days. Even amongst the current circles we are in. Thanks for the review.

One's belief system is not the one they proclaim, but the way they live their lives. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a good read.

Thanks Charlie. A lot of folks claim to be this or that but definitely their lives do not reflect same. I like what the scripture says Man looketh on the outward appearance but God looketh on the heart.

Sankey:

Another very interesting chapter into your life. Many
of your insights are spot on - Satan cannot be all-
knowing because God is the only One who can be.

thanks for sharing

Hi Jan; Geoff here by the way...not sure if we have met or spoken before funny thing is Satan knows the bible ha but he wouldn't apply it to himself ha! He thought he was God at one time and God let him know the truth of that . Lord Bless see you arounmd getitng some more revised chapters up later today for furrther review.
