Someone needs to get up there and fix that roof. there's a storm coming. Obviously, the culprit is the invisible man. He's still wearing his shoes.

Most petty crimes are committed by Jr. High or High school students to pay for drugs, alcohol and/or smokes. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words.

Having your home invaded is so much more than the loss of privacy. It's a loss of security.
While I was in graduate school, my wife had returned to Chicago to visit our parents with our infant daughter. While she was there, my father took ill and hopped a flight home as well.
We returned to a broken window, and missing family heirlooms.
I spent weeks visiting pawn shops, and did recover a ring,(we were uninsured and the purchase put us back a bit), but our apartment never felt safe again.

Thanks for sharing
Gene

Thanks Gene. As I said that church photo taken the morning after the robbery always brings back the awful memory to my wife that she was so close in our bed to where the thief came through my study. Appreciate your review thanks.

A very well-written story. It is always the best thing to do and be honest, even if it means you are going to lose a little bit. The honor if being seen as honest is worth much more, even when it was an honest mistake to claim it in the first place.

Getting over a burglary or any home invasion takes time. It is so invasive to our minds and hearts, that it becomes more than the material things that were taken or ruined. It is a part of our personal space, and the violation goes deep.
I'm glad your insurance company was kind with you, but they can't replace the piece of mind that once existed.
Thank you for sharing this story,
~patty~

This is a really interesting chapter. I am glad your guardian angel arranged to give you to extra prompt to do the right thing. There's always a tussle in our hearts when such things occur.

Hey! Look what I found. I missed this one somehow. I think it sounds like someone that knew about that cash too. It just seems to convenient. We all seem to run into those moral dilemmas! Somehow a kind Lord tips the scales just a bit and makes it easier to do the right thing!! Well, 3am. Should get some sleep. Thought I'd stop by. mikey

Dear Sankey,

An interesting story about a robbery and payment from the insurance company. Being honest was the thing to do about the watch also.

You mix singular and plural at times.

For example here is a suggested edit for this section:

I would often get up early in the morning for one reason or another. The morning of the robbery I took care of the things we do when we first get up. When I came into my study I immediately noticed the cool air coming through the open window. I unfortunately had left the window unlocked the night before. I had the distinct sense that whomever had been in the house had probably just left before I came into the room at around four AM. I knew he was a young burglar because he had pulled up the inside blind on my window and, not knowing how to activate the stopper, had left the blind up. So he tied the pulled down cord to the outside blind support.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Winslow

Thanks friend, I know my wife was troubled about it for a long time afterwards, as I said someplace the door where the thief came through to the rest of the house was right next to our bedroom door and Louise's (my wife) side of our bed.

This is a sad story but a good one about the importance of honesty. It is difficult to know what is missing straight away when you are robbed because it is not until you need something that you realise it is not in its usual place. This is another well written story explaining some of the feelings that we experience in these events in our lives.
