You did a great job describing this varied cast of characters, Beth. I enjoyed reading it, although I hope I never meet up with any of them, or live in the same building of any like them. Your words are descriptive to each so much that I could picture them. I would have been a bit afraid of some of them. Your time at this place must have been interesting to say the least.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan. I appreciate the review and comments. A couple of the were scary. I liked the old lady with her circus tales. She was a fun character.

Did you go back to the beginning days when you were married to your husband? Evan was a neighbor? Just trying to catch up on the story...I'm thinking you are telling the story again but in a humorous fashion.

These are stories I had written when my husband was still alive about eleven years ago. They are some of the same subject matter as the ones are wrote later but these are told with more humor. You read the beginning of other story so must be familiar.

Never a dull moment with this particular array of characters peopling the living quarters - life has many different roads we can travel - written in an entertaining style

Thank Zanya. I tend to graviate toward characters, because I think they are interesting, but sometimes they start to get on your nerves. They are usually not boring.

Oh my Beth, once again you have added a lot of spices (good and bad) to the soup... a fire no less. And moving again and again. I love how you find humor in everything you endured.

Always, Carol

Thank you Carol, I like to laugh at all that now. Actually I think life has been fun. I wouldn't take anything for my memories.

Goodness, me, Beth. You did have some colourful first years of marriage. In fact, it seems you've never had a dull moment throughout your marriage. I can't wait to reading on. You're on the move again. I love it. Ulla:)))

Well, for sure, a fire is difficult to make humorous, but you did a great job.
I remember this story a little, but you did embellish it quite a bit. I enjoyed reading this a lot.
You've had a complete life, my dear. The action kept on full force for your entire marriage.
No boredom here, that's for sure.
My best,
Marie

Thank you so much Marie. I guess I accomplished what I was aiming for, because I couldn't imagine anything worse than having a boring life and, I've not been bored. LOL

What excitement you had in those years. I don't blame you for wanting to find other accommodations. I wonder if that man managed to burn the house down eventually. Thank goodness, you had the sense to get out.

Thank you for a great review. Actually when we left the house, it had sold and the company that bought it was planning to tear it down and build condos. Everyone was going to have to leave, so we were ready to buy a house anyways. I'd graduated from college and was pregnant.

Yes, I believe they all qualified as characters, Beth.
When we moved to Nevada from a small town in Illinois we learned early-on not to get friendly with neighbors in apartment complexes or rented houses. Only when we were buying did we ever get friendly with neighbors. Nevada was a melting spot for people from all over and TALK ABOUT CHARACTERS! They would come over to say Hi and stay all day. LOL Good job. This had to be very scary. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. I guess you need to expect characters if your are renting. We managed to stay there a little over two years until I finished college and got pregnant. Then we bought a house. The fire was scary. The time I lured a squrrel in through the kitchen window was scary. BUt it was in a good neighborhood and as long as tenants didn't burn the house down it wasn't a bad place.

Well, you can't say your life was boring, Beth. It's too bad this apartment didn't work out. It sounded lovely, but the rent was too low to keep these strange characters from sharing the house with you. So on to the next. Again, well written with humour that you probably didn't feel at the time.

Thank you Judy. We stayed in that apartment until I finished college and got pregnant. By then we had money for a down payment on a house. I wasn't unhappy with the apartment in spite of the characters. I didn't want a boring, life, and they kept it interesting.

Oh my goodness! This is why my husband doesn't want to go to a retirement home that shares walls with others. They could be characters like you mentioned. I did like Miss Jack and I hope you share some of her stories - the ones which are safe to tell.

died a shortly (a short time -or- shortly)
if he could borrow an asperin, (aspirin)
since his family had once owed one (owned)
dishevelved white-haired lady (disheveled)

Thank you for the reveiw and comments and for pointing out the errors. Those managed to get corrected earlier but I'm glad people point them out when they see them. I understand your husband's feeling. There are plenty of people with undesirable traits. Miss Jack was precious and so generous with her tuna salad.
