I caught this on the fly, not having read previous chapters and yet, almost from the first sentence, you captivated me and held me close to the memories the regrets and the loss of that single summer, when dad packs up his little boy and drives away.

If this is the final chapter, I'm feeling quite sorry - I loved this read about an innocent, long, lazy summer that was so full of childlike wonder and action.
This has been such a great read, bh - thank you!

Mary - what a kind review! Have you read any of the other chapters? I know it's hard to circle back. Regards, Bill

I love the inter-generational friendship between Rabbit and Virge. It is something that young people nowadays don't often get involved in.
You bring the whole episode to life - I was almost joining in that game of checkers.
A very enjoyable read, as usual.

This story kind of takes me back to a moment in my childhood where I spent some time with my uncle in the country. I met an old man just like this one. Nice writing .

Liked this: His eyes were scrunched up more than usual. It looked like his wrinkles had wrinkles.
Lovely lines here:...he tricked me a bit and grabbing my hand, pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back. He's an old man and don't get too many hugs. :)
Excellent!

These stories are so delightful, at least the couple I have just read. Maybe there is more serious stuff in the others and I hope I get the chance to read them. They appealed to me, because as well as being entertaining and compulsive reading, there were so many little lessons dotted along the way. The goodness of the grandparents, the nature lessons, the encouragement to learn from Virgil and the affection between him and Rabbit were just a few things I picked up on. Looking forward to the next read.

Thank you so much Pat - we get so few sixes that I'm always honored to get one. I hope that you do get a chance to revisit some of the earlier posts. Warm regards, Bill

Bill,
The story of Rabbit's summer with his grandparents and ole Virge has been a real pleasure to read. I have enjoyed every chapter and found it to be a bit nostalgic in a few places. Having been raised on a rocky farm in Tennessee, I can relate to many of the experiences he encountered. I did have the opportunity to see both sides of life. When things would get bad on the farm, Dad would move us to the city for a short spell until he could make enough money to take us back to the farm. I enjoyed the read.

Bill, what a delightful chapter. I loved every word of this chapter. You convey so much depth and beauty in your story of the love between Virgil and Rabbit. There were no spaggies that I could see, and I wouldn't even suggest any change in the narrative. Great job!
Warm regards, Bev
