You have a way of telling the story. Great capture of the process of trying to unravel the stories told by ancient artifacts of the past. Super!

A nice sense of the past - going millennia back in time.
I thought paleotology was the study of dinosaurs. Splitting hairs .... :)
Love the last line.

Isn't it archaeologists who do the digging ( mainly of ancient sites/structures) and paleontologists who deal in all things dinosaur?in any case, nice tribute to an unsung tradition.

I like this one Treischel it reads we....the feel of an adventure with mystery is the feel I get when reading this....the flow of rhyming is awesome and you made it very interesting just like the job of the Archeologist. Well done.

Comment from Preston McWhorter
Hi, Trieschel,
This an excellent poem with good flow,meter,rhyme, and structure. It offers a good picture of the Paleontologist's work. I hate to be picky but Archaeologists study the artifacts of human cultures while the Paleontologist studies fossil remains of only animals as far as I know. I appreciate the ode to another "useless" science. Much the same has been said of archaeology being useless by some.

Study the past,
So long and vast
Mulling over the clues.
To put to test
What was guessed.
Late historical news.
What a conglomerate you have here Tom. Ancient relics being deciphered today. Oh such a revelation.

Archeology has always interested me--I should have studied it;
"bony wings"
"scaly lizard skin"--good alliteration utilized here;
Yesterdays findings are today's treasures;
"Late historical news"--well stated--good summarization in the life of an archeologist.
Excellent!

The poem is a master work. The meter,visual,and language are stellar and on point. The work has clarity and interest for a laypeople. The work has a provocative and emotive perspective on archaeology.
