Thank you Marisa3 for your message of openness. I lifts my heart. I like to read you because you always enlighten me and your subjects are politically relevant.
Your writing is logically constructed and you supply ample arguments. The world would be a better place if we were guided by love and not bickering and narrow-mindedness.

I truly thank you for your thoughtful review and comments.
I certainly agree that we could do with much less bickering and narrow-mindedness and a lot more love and understanding in this world.

I found this article to be most interesting in it's subject matter and well worded in its creation. I did see the interview with Jason Collins. I also remember the shameful, horrible death of young Matthew Shepard. I think this murder turned the tide for a lot of men and women in the way they thought about the treatment of gay and lesbian people. The truth is, whether we believe in the right or wrong of homosexual behavior, our human behavior is clearly to come from a perspective of love and good judgement. But not that of a judgmental flame thrower, set on destruction of any of God's people whoever they may be, however they may be flawed or blessed, in our thinking. I know and love people who happen to be gay. While I don't necessarily agree with their lifestyles, I love them very much. It's a tender subject because I do care. It needs a lot of prayerful consideration as we carefully craft our laws to hold the freedom of all people as precious. This is much harder than it appears on the most visible level. You have opened a very deep subject with your writing, one that we all are dealing with in one way or another. Thanks for your creation.

This story is well written and makes its point clearly. If he truly doesn't want to be put in a box' why make such a public issue of it. As you so correctly observed, a heterosexual would not be encouraged to dwell on their sexual activities. So why should that be acceptable for one who is gay?

Unless and until we as a society quit making an issue of a person's sexuality, then people like Jason will feel compelled to take a stand on behalf of those who are being denied equality based on their orientation. He felt by not declaring this part of his life he was living in a less than honest way.
Heterosexuality is embraced by our society as the "norm" so there is no need for anyone who is heterosexual to declare themselves as such.
This all comes down to discrimination of a group of people based on narrow minded societal judging of others. I trust there will come a day when gays will feel included to the extent that they will not have to put their sexuality first.
Thank you for your read and your comments.

I can see your creative juices are flowing again Marisa - good for you! A fine write, imbued with your own easy wisdom.
If I were (to decide - delete) to begin judging others (you have one unnecessary verb here - even better would be "if I were to judge others", leaving out th eclutter
to his pronouncement(,)(spacing error around comma)which shows that this is much bigger than one person.
For those who have for so long lingered in the shadows and felt excluded from society and all its conventional mores. (This isn't a sentence - it's one of your famous hanging fragments).

Thank you Sharyn. I'm glad you found this an interesting read.
Thank you also for trimming my wordiness and calling me out on my 'fragment'. Much appreciated fine lady.

Marisa, This story is written with intelligence and in excellent taste. It is clearly written by a lady who is thoughtful and considerate. In my opinion, you should submit this prose to a newspaper for all to read. Carole

Dear Marrisa, If I had a six you would have it. Your story was well written and spoke the truth. Last night in Oklahoma City the Westboro Baptist 'Church' from Kansas, protested the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets games because of Jason Collins. Their words of hate was not welcomed by the Oklahoma crowd. Why do people treat each other this way? Thank you for sharing your work with us, Shirley

It just boggles the mind that these church going people think it is their duty to take it upon themselves to be judge and jury over the lives of those that do not follow their dictates or beliefs. To call one's self a Christian and in the next breath spew hate and intolerance is beyond convoluted; it just plain does not make sense.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and comments. I greatly appreciate both.

Well said! Bravo! I'm not gonna lie, this made me misty eyed. This is such an honest, raw narrative and you're right... it's bigger than sexual orientation... it's about extending common decency to each other as humans and children of God. Lovely, lovely bit of writing.

Judging people by the group they belong to has long been established, but we can't let it be the overarching thing that should define a person. I agree. Individuality trumps group affiliation. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you 100% and you said it with deep love and affection for your fellow humans who need to be accepted for who they are as a person and what they do with their lives and not by their sexual orientation. I commend you for speaking your mind in a kind and thoughtful manner.
