I love to hear the stories of what inspires a poet to write :-)
How great that the speaker feels an affinity with the antique jewelry box as both she and the box used to be young once :-)
I like the sing/things passage
this is beautifully poignant :-) Brooke

Beautiful, Alison. I collect musical jewellery boxes too, the older, the better. Love them so much, and your poem. Thanks so much for sharing :) Lise

Ah, the allure of antiques. This poem really gets the message across to the reader. What once was a beautiful, working musical wooden box now simply...was. No alluring music. No prancing ballerina on her tiny spindle. Just a box.
Kind of like us, wouldn't you agree?
Great write!

What a lovely poem. I love antiques for the history in them. I too wonder what the life of the owner was like, how they used the item, how they acquired it, and so on. Very good idea to create a poem speaking as the box, which was there and "remembers", knowing the truth.

SOME TIMES OLD JEWELRY BOXES HOLD A LOT OF GOOD TREASURES OR SECRET PANELS IN THEM. MY GRANDMA HAD ONE SHE WOULDN'T LET ANYONE TOUCH. SHE HAD AN OLD LOCKET OF HER HUSBAND OF LONG AGO IN THERE
