this is very well written, christian, you did an excellent job writing this interview with a person that found themselves in a woman's body to escape the digital world they were trapped in. congratulations on the win

I enjoyed reading your story. It was a big change from the topics I usually choose. I thought your character is certainly unique and quite interesting.

This was an interesting read and I gather the concept is a sci-fi character being interviewed. Somehow he was a man who switched into the body of his fianc©. Although I'm not a fan of this genre, I thought you carried off your interview well.

    Hi B,

I'm so glad you found it interesting despite not being a fan of the genre.

Jules Verne wrote sci-fi, one novel about a crazy ship that could actually go under water and another about putting men on the moon. Many dismissed his work as ridicuolous at the time, so I hope that isn't what turns you off about science fiction.

However, to be fair, there are fewer truly, dramatically compelling sci-fi stories than in other genres, mainly due to a glut of bad authors who depend more upon whacky props and the magical awe of supposedly 'futuristic' science than on their characters and stories.

But then there are the masters of sci-fi, who created truly compelling human dramas set in a solid, and often amazing, background of speculative genius. Arther C. Clarke predicted 'Geo Synchronis Satelites', and some even say he invented them. Isaac Asimov created the 3 laws of robotics which many say will be used in the near future, and he even coined the term Robot (derived from the Russian word for worker). There have been countless others who predicted real science, too, while telling wonderful stories full of interesting characters.

My aim is to tell a great story first, while speculating with my intellect and imagination about where science might truly be able to bring us one day.

I used to read classic literature and biogrophies when I was a boy. Then, one day, I read 'Rendesvous with Rama' by Arther C. Clarke and it was okay. But then Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation' series made me a fan. I still enjoy 'real life' type stories, but sci-fi, when done well, can be an unforgettable experience for a reader.

Sorry I went on and on. Thanks for the great review.

I'm familiar with most of the writers you mentioned. As time progresses, we are getting closer to the 'fantastical'(LOL) that once was so far fetched. Everyone has their own niche and if sci-fi is yours, you must follow your passion.

This is by far the most interesting of all the entries to this contest. I am enthralled, so much so, that I feel the need to read his/her story in its entirety.

Hi, Thanks so much for your high praise and top rating for this piece. I'm so happy to hear how much you liked it. The novel this interview refers to is complete (although only the first half is posted on this site), and is, in my opinion, the best work I've ever done. I'm trying to get the energy and time to write the sequel, which I have outlined, but there's oh so many other things to do... This contest entry, however, would probably make a good prologue. So, once again, a contest entry for Fanstory has got me writing.

Thanks again for the gratifying comments.

Fascinating!

The story line, the incredible twist in this character alone leads me to believe that this story is a wild ride.

Thanks for the in depth interview.

Good luck in the contest.

Wow. So well written. I love this. Just from reading the interview, I want to read the whole story on this doctor! The novel that could be written on him would be amazing! You make the reader feel sad, humored and even angry all in this one interview! Thank you for such an in depth interview! I want to know more on the good doctor!

Hi Cat, Thank you so much for all your wonderful praise for this piece. It's definitely my most cherished creation. This interview is a huge spoiler in that it pretty much sums up the first novel of 'The Electric Arc' series I'm writing. The first novel, 'Glitch', is what Calvin just explained in the interview, the second, 'Son of a Glitch' is about a war between the virtual world and the real world, courtesy of the children Calvin sired while he was a drone. (He had a 'wife' named Leelee who bore him two children in the span of three days, and who grew to adulthood in about five minutes. lol) It is a virtual fantasy game world after all. And the third novel is called 'GlitchCraft', which documents the destruction of Earth, but the salvation of mankind by every human being uploaded into the virtual world... which resides in a spaceship headed for the stars... Therefore, the title 'GlitchCraft'... But rest assured, Calvin remains the hero of all three novels. I like him too.. err, or is it her?

But that's enough info here. I just wanted to show you that there's some background here in gratitude for such a positive and enthusiastic review.

    Thanks again. It's much appreciated.
