LOL! Now he truly is ... or should we say, was ... an optimistic man! LOL. You have a dark mind, Bill, you make even the most horrific story hilarious! I love this one, as well. :)) Sandra xx

Haha! So far, so good, right? I think this was a joke once. Nice touch using the number fifty-five in the story. My only question is, if the guy is so optimistic, why did he jump from a roof? (Nobody "accidentally" falls from such a height without a construction hat.)LOL

That was a great story, Bill. What I liked about it was that, even though you had only 55 words, you managed to work up to a punch line. It was hilarious. All the very best of luck in the contest. You deserve to win. Every good wish, Mike

Very interesting concept of an optimist's view of life and death. Would be interesting to continue this at the time of impact and the afterlife thoughts.

Oh, I am laughing my head off at this perfect example of a cock-eyed optimist. What a great concrete example, and yes, the pun is intended. :-)

This experience must be representative of something else or Alan, the optimist, must have been able to fly or he was on his way to meet his Maker.

This short story earns a chuckle and a generous vote. Amazing that at over 100 mph this hero could still breathe.
I am optimistic that the marines trained you well, in using words to good advantage. Your gleaning through a maze of twisted words led to a heart-stopping conclusion
