It is not guns that kill people. It is the morons who's hands those guns are in that do. Easy to see why this well written poem is an All-Time Best Achiever.

Yes, though there seems to be a disproportionate amount of morons about. Thanks for the review.

With all the shootings in schools and all the senseless violence, this poem still holds fast and current even though you wrote it three years ago. Very well done.

The poem is thought provoking infused with social message, I disagree however that God only loves the blameless child. He came and died on the cross for the sinners. He walked with the sinners and the poor, uneducated fishermen in sandals not in branded shoes. He was born in the humblest place, in an animal's stable and not in a Kingly palace. The last line is a clincher "I wept for all the victims yet to be" . An excellent write.

I agree, yet Christ singled out children as special. He loved Paul, who was party to the murder of Christians, yet so many people who claim to be his children bay for blood and the right to kill 'bad guys'. There seems little of the Redeemer's redemption in the world today.

Oh, Bob! This is so touching and beautiful. I'm really glad you re-posted it, else I would have missed it entirely! What lovely eloquence in speaking of something so horrid!

Such a heartfelt sad poem and so very true. Why they are killing children amazes me if it was a rare incident I could maybe try to reason it out. But repeatedly it's the children
My heart aches for those grieving and asking WHY?

I wish I had a six star left for this one. The poem addresses the epidemic of violence in this country and the sad plight of the often young victims. The saddest part is summed up in your last verse and lines: "A new year dawns, blood-red like those before. I weep for all the victims yet to be. We must act and do something to stop the carnage, not sit idly by. I like the repeat of I wept. One small suggestion. In the line: "For every school and mall and waiting queue" I think a waiting queue would be better since it is more definitive and doesn't repeat instead of three "and."

Thank you. Action must be taken, but it hasn't in the last decades. I have little hope this latest obscenity will make any difference.

I join you in your weeping. And some of the tears tears of frustration that we just keep letting school shootings happen again and again. I am on the side of gun control legislation and what makes this poem so powerful is that you show deep sorrow without choosing sides, a human poem rather than an issue poem. Very powerful and a six if I had one.

Thank you. Frustration is the mildest way I can describe my feelings. So many decades, and nothing done.

Hello,
I think this poem is about the laws of gun control and the killings of children in school. My son was at school when a lunatic killed 5 children and wounded a teacher at a shooting. My son was not hurt physically but had to go to counseling for a year. Good job!

Thanks. I am so sorry to hear of your son, yet flattered my writing worthy of a review from someone touched by the tragedy.

Hi Snodlander - a very well written elegy on a sad subject. This subject crops up endlessly, the banning of guns etc. Of course, it will never happen and these incidents will continue to occur, as they have since 2012. Why it wont I can't imagine. But you have written an excellent verse on the subject - we need more like this. Very good in both content and abab rhyme. Thanks for posting. Warm regards Dorothy x

Hi snodlander, I thoroughly agree with the poignant words in this beautifully penned poem about the gun law that is slowly but surely taking over the world, Here in the UK guns are not so freely available, most police aren't armed and we don't have anywhere near the sort of gun murder witnessed in America.
Lovely well rhymed poem with a great rhythm gets your point across well my friend.
