I love this! I have been away from FS for a few months and I am enjoying reading again, when they are as enjoyable as this! You perfectly analyzed this relationship. You cut the cancer out, did chemo and radiation and are healthy again. This is a journey, a war, that you won. The person you describe is one I recognize all too well. And you describe the person so very eloquently. Your anger is never vulgar, just healthy. Your victory is eloquent in it's descriptive of letting light in. BRAVO!

Well in my portfolio, skip all the stuff up front and go to the political, meaty, earlier stuff. Thanks, you sound like fun!!!

Such vivid, powerful words. This had me in tears. It shows we can only be knocked down so many times in life before we start fighting back. Unfortunately, I've known people who want to hold others back in life, because they're so miserable themselves. The third verse describes this perfectly:

But what you didn't tell me
was that you feed
off the light of others
because you, yourself, have none.

Thank you for sharing this :-)

Mishelly, you are an angel - I so thank you for being moved by my work. You may have been able to tell that this write was very important to me. Blessings for being on my wave-length, and also, of course, for your lovely '6'!

This is way too often true-there are those who only want to take and manipulate. I'm glad this had a positive ending. A very nice free style poem. Take care, my friend~Debbie

I never knew Butterflies cold be so strong. I really liked the analogy of the light stealer and the box as a way of imprisoning the subject. This was both exciting to see the butterfly stand up for herself and scary when I think about the poor guy opening the box. Nice job.

Good for you, for not staying in the box and letting him control you. We each have to be our own person, to a fair degree, even when we're part of another. Good poem, Sharyn.

Your characters are vivid and understandable in a way that reveals the conflict you have with him and your answer to his challenge. This is an excellent write in free verse. The digital art fits the poem.

This review need only have one word "BRAVO"!!! Unfortunately, the site won't allow it. I know that sociopath and have not only been the butterfly but have also watched many butterfly. I believe I came out a much more magnificent butterfly, others turned to ants or stone but the one I still worry for turned into a black widow spider. Thank you for sharing.

This is a very well-written story (yes poem) with a clever plot. I appreciate the message within that the person develops his/her own inner strength to stand up to the taker. Well done.

The poem is captivating and well written compelling us to read between the lines. I wouldn't change anything about the poem. The format is eye catching.

There is a bit more depth to a person than first meets one's eye. This is what I took away from this piece of poetry. This was well written with very good emotional thought transference... John
