This is a beautiful piece of work- much dignity and self respect came from the experience. I came from a dysfunctional family myself, so i could relate on many levels. Perfect rhyming verse that gave clear definitions of the things that occurred in each couplet. Beautiful job! Holly

This one touched very close to home, I too could never please, and the abuse was endless, If, I let it it would continue on today, but I also broke the cycle, and did not treat my son that way, I only have just the one. To sad to say enjoyed but you can bet I understand.

Stalking Wolf, Its not everyday that someone really understands what you have been through..You do my friend, and I appreciate your honesty and your wonderful review..I am also glad to hear that you too have broken that chain..Happi

I am glad you have broken it, to pass it on is a shame, innocent children will pay the price. You earned the review. Have a great day. Stalking Wolf.

I never experienced the aloneness of not being loved, but I do understand about being the oldest, since I want the oldest of ten. Like I said I was not unloved, but I did feel my folks were so cruel, until one day I had kids of my own. Then I understood. I enjoyed the read.

Thank you for the review.. I in no way resent my parents making me clean or do chores. It made me a more responsible person and that is what you feel I am sure. I only wish they had not been so abusive mentally. Thank you for the review. Happi

a very sad but true account of many families, alas.
fortunately it came good for you, and i'm glad, but
many carry on the trend themselves, more's the pity.
a very well penned and presented piece, Happi,
that flowed with relative ease. thank you for
sharing. warmly, x, eph.

I understand completely. You can relive the childhood that you wished you had with your children. My Mother was very strict in all issues. One day as she was visiting me she said :You're a wonderful Mother." I will always remember that.

How wonderful for you to hear that from your Mom. My Mom knows I'm a good Mom but would never say that because of her pride. That is horrible. I'm glad your did. Thank you for the review. Happi

So often messed up family situations are the subjects of funny sitcoms, but in real life--not funny, right?!
Good job

This is so true! The saying goes that one cannot choose one's family but you can choose your friends. So there you are, you get a second chance! As for the poem, you have managed to convey the message in a very poetic way. Loved the alliteration:"cooking, cleaning". This poem can be a lesson for parents in: "How not to". Absolutely love the username! Good write, you have done well!

'Who are they?' is an extremely well-written and heart-wrenching piece. To be brought up in a loveless must bring true misery. It was a privilege to review this talented poet's work.

I understand what you are saying. Dysfunctional families can be barnacles on the soul, because memories of things that happened to you tend to play repeatedly. It's best to turn them a loose and pray for them from afar. Love them and forgive them, but to keep your sanity, stay away. I swore I would not perpetuate the madness, and I don't think I have. Peace to you!
