I can see why the win. This is terrific. Have not read your tie-mate, but will do that in a sec.

Maybe you should spend a little more time in this genre. You are combining story-telling skills with great alliteration.

There's a more light-hearted treatment of the subject that has to feel like a vacation. Have some fun with poetry.

Thanks so much, Ingrid. I do like playing with poems, but my strength lies in prose. Promoting on both sides of the aisle is difficult. Thank you again. Peace, Lee

Wonderfully pieced together. Nice staccato effect with the bullets.
I was there once upon a time. Twenty cent double feature and a cartoon.
Doesn't get any better.
Thank you.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Those were the days when fun and entertainment were a cheap irrepressible matinee with a smooch on the side, with a bit of luck and the old walls of the flick-house trembled with the brouhaha and no one cared about the script. You say it all and more, making it sound like an old time ballad. Those were the days when kids were not too hung up to be kids and they were ready to shout it to the roof tops. Ekim777

This was just like going to the Saturday Movies. I used to stay all day. I guess it was a place to dump the kids in the olden days. LOL

It was great to hear the old western again. Wonderful post and you had my vote earlier before this popped up for review.
Best of luck in this contest. :)

To the author of Saturday Matinee, You've completed the requirements for the contest and I believe that your piece is a winner. I could feel your noise and it completed the story with clearly composed words to compliment your piece. Very Nice. Carole

Yessir those were the days, eh? A movie and popcorn and the whole shebang! IT's unfortunate that they don't exist like this any more for kids don't know what they are missing.

Thank you. Yes, it's a shame the days of double features with a cartoon are gone. Fun to remember, though. Thanks again. X

Reminds me of a trip into town on Saturday. The wildest thing I did was go to the movies. I think admission was 10 cents. But I suspect most of them other things were carried on, too. Best wishes with your entry.

Oh, Jean, I remember those days. We kids ruled the theater on Saturday afternoons. If you had a quarter, you had everything you needed. I'm so glad you enjoyed. X

This is a great cacophony poem! The topic is so creative and the words you've used to create noise in the reader's mind are perfect! I especially liked the "clop, clop, clopping" of the ponies and the "piano plinking, glasses clinking". Wonderful choice of words! This was truly a pleasure to read. Best of luck to you in the contest. :)

A wonderful cacophony poem. Excellent rhyming couplets, and good use of internal rhyme in your stanzas. You also use onomatopoeia well, which can be difficult to do. An excellent entry. I wish you all the very best of luck in the contest.

Blessings,

~ J.

Oh Wow! What a great job you did. This poem stands on its own merit but is also the perfect poem for cacophony contest! Sure brings back lot of memories. Didn't see anything I would change...meter or words or rhymes. Wish I had a 6 star.
