I can see why this won, it is simply stunning in the mind picture it presents.

Though not a fan of free verse, poems of this quality may well change my opinion.

Thank you so much, Bob, for such an encouraging and thoughtful review. Like you, I've never been a big fan of free verse either, but I think you should give it a try. You might like it! Thanks again. Connie

I read this awesome poem and said to myself, "Self... see what you miss when you don't come to FanStory?" I missed this and might never have seen it (horrid thought!) if you hadn't won first place in this contest. I am so delighted... for both of us! You won a second time, and I got to read a truly beautiful, breathtaking, visual poem so wonderfully written. I'm truly thankful to have found it, and of course, truly thrilled that your poem won. Congratulations and huge hugs from a loyal and devoted fan. :D

What a wonderful review, Adonna! Thank you, my sweet friend. You have always been an inspiration for me to try to improve my writing--honestly, you have been just that! I must admit I was pretty shocked to have won this. I never think my poetry is as good as many on this site, you included. But I will certainly not turn away the winnings! I think of you as a little angel who is always doing good things for others, but often behind the scenes. And the next time we meet for lunch, I will be more specific about that. Thank you again, and thank you for the six stars too! Love, Connie

Hello there
I can see clearly why this is rated so highly: an excellent piece of writing. I also battle a bit with 'free verse' which is all the more reason why I find this piece impressive - it flows and builds a warm and understated picture of your environment and your place in it.
Really, an excellent work this - I wish you well with you future writing.
Cheers
phill

My warmest congratulations for a lovely piece which truly deserved to win! I enjoyed the moment in time at the wetlands which you ably captured in words. A photo would have immortalized the moment, yes, but as your poem says, the vision of the moment is etched forever in your heart. Well done.

This is an awesome poem. I aspire to write in this way--with imagery that transports the reader to a different world, an exhilarating one. Simple and highly effective. Thanks for the inspiration.

Congrats on winning the contest. I enjoy nature poetry and here you create a vivid scene of teh wetlands. I like the mention of the sparrows, geese and yellow finches that live there.

First of all congratulations on the win. Also I thank you as one all too familiar with the wetlands. I live near the Louisiana coast where the wetlands have taken too many beatings from hurricanes and more recently the oil spill. Not sure how much longer they will be there.

Thank you, Jean, for your congratulations and your feedback. How sad it is that the wetlands of Louisiana could disappear. My husband and I drove all the way from California to Louisiana a few months ago, and it is beautiful there. I hope you get to keep those wetlands. Connie
