I am afraid the talk with Mom is going to be a huge struggle. You did another wonderful job describing the emotion James felt as Mac told him bits and pieces.

Yes, Mom is going to be very hard to talk to.

Hi Valerie:)
By the end of this meeting, James must be wondering just what he is getting out of Mac. Almost nothing Mac told him held an answer to what James wanted to learn. On the other hand James also didn't have much useful information that could help the investigation.

the best thing about this chapter is that it allows insght into how Mac and James have deeveloped trust in each other. We can see James starting to mature beyond the nerd who turned his father in.

now perhaps James will be able to coax Mom to reveal some things she has kept from her family. As always, I'm ready to learn more about Dad's personal history. You have moved a long way past the perennial excuse, "The devil made me do it."

Love and Irish hugs,

Roger

You are right, not many questions on either side. But when James talks to Mom he gets more than he expects.

Replete family history make all more real.

I tried not to laugh.  "It's one of those you had to be there to understand situations.  When you grow up in a family with a father that makes all the rules and controls the amount of air you breathe, you'd be surprised how you accept the odd as normal.  Of course I was curious, but curiosity was something we learned at a very young age to keep in check." I get the picture nicely from this.

Like Mac's sharp comment at the end. And then the solid cliff hanger. Look Forward to more. Confident writing!

Man oh man, this is beginning to sound like James's father was really brutalized as a child by his dad that was a true
drunk that cared nothing about nobody but himself and showed
absolutely no love at all for no one not even his self;a real recluse but one of the dangerous kind exhibiting paranoid delusional thought patterns one that act's out on
internal impluses externally when the percieved feeling of
weakness shows itself,he becomes over whelmed with a real
desire to foster a feeling of absolute control and power....
So very extremely well written my friend,as I am presently
experiencing goose bumps, your so good at this....Cranial Thinker

Sads as it may me serial killers are made by their environment. So many think they are just born that way. Glad you liked this one.

I love the way this chapter gets into the nitty-gritty of personalities, and the deepening mystery of the background of James' father is most intriguing. I have a real sympathy for his mother. Giddy

'More Questions Few Answers' is a chapter that touches my heart. You have Mac tell us what James is deeply like and mostly how he feels about the kid, especially with the fabulous words, "You gave me back something I lost a long time ago, faith in the goodness of mankind."

Should the k be dropped: 'I didn't give Mac[k] a chance to respond.

Great chapter, Sasha!

I enjoyed this chapter, Sasha...
so well presented, not a nit
in sight.

A tall, gangly, red haired freckle-faced nerd, with the social skills of a wart hog, an IQ that made everyone in the room feel like a kindergarten dropout, GREAT DESCIPTION.

It is interesting how these serial killers come to be what the are. As James said, hey don't just wake up one morning and decide to kill. Something has to have been brewing and forming in them a little along until it culminates in the first kill, then it becomes an addiction to do so. That's my tak on it, anyway. Another great chapter.

There is always something that triggers it but what it is is still being studded.

Wow, even more mysteries to solve. I love it. I enjoy a book that keeps presenting problems like a maze to or tangled skein of yarn to be untangled.
The similes you use are always descriptive. This one especially captured my imagination: Leave it to Mac to hand me a large plate of piping hot pressure peppered with enough guilt to give someone with a cast-iron stomach a permanent case of heartburn.
Thanks for another terrific chapter. Linda

Hi Smurphy
An excellent write.
Having Mac and James in a head to head situation allowed your dialogue to flow effortlessly.
Clever how you have teased us into wanting to come back hoping for answers to all those unresolved questions.
