This is a good humorous poem. It sounds like what one would hear from an animal if they could indeed, talk. Some don't get along and some do not. I enjoyed it.

Thank you for the review and comments. Ifthe animals are younger when they are together they usually get along better. Older cats that haven't been around dogs don't adjust so well.

You are welcome. You are right about the compatibility factor. Even older cats don't adjust easily to a new one. It took a year for mine to be cordial to each other.

This is hysterical and so so true. A cat does act like queen of the domain, and the poor pup has to take her sh...t.
I love what you did here. It makes so much sense as you read on.
Thanks for the smile today. I really needed that!
My best,
Marie

Ha, this is a really cute poem, and so true I think to what might be in the contrasting minds of dogs and cats. Most dogs love to be around people and give and expect attention. Cats on the other hand can be aloof, until they see you sitting comfortably with a book or newspaper. Then they want attention. Great poem. Good luck in the contest, Beth.

Thank you Judy. I appreciate the review and comments. This was for an old contest. There isn't one now. I just thought I try to get it to Best of Best. I got more reviews this time around.

Hahahaha. This may be true in many situations. However, my cats and dogs always got along. This cat sounds like a true princess who over-e estimates herself, while the dog is tired of her snooty ways. I enjoyed reading this.

Thank so much for the review. I'm glad you got a chuckle. I think if both cats and dogs are fairly young when they are introduced to each other, they tend to get along better.

I am so sorry I missed this post the first time around. I absolutely enjoyed reading it. Since I am an owner of both cats and dogs. I do completely understand this poem. Thank you for re-posting it.

So clever to offer dual POVs--ingenious personification of these PETulant pseudo siblings--dogling/catling/petling rivalry. So glad you decided to revive this charmer.

I love it! You should have won! This is so real and so true and the picture is perfect. I think it is a little different here because our cats and dogs like each other. When Sadie went blind two of the cats actually got on either side of her and steered her around in the front yard to pee or poo. I was amazed that they even would curl up with her and sleep. Great job here, Beth. I love it! Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. I'm so glad you liked my little poem. i think it is truly amazing when animal show compassion for other animals. That is an amazing story and the other cats guiding and sleeping with the blind cat. It makes them seem almost human. Some dogs and cats get along well.

This is hilarious! As a pet sitter a=(and dog lover) I can relate. You capture the POVs perfectly, with witty rhyming and a bouncy beat. The meter does have some slightly forced scansion in a few lines, the most pronounced of which is this one:

I've never had to obey any rule.

Accenting the O in obey is unnatural. Here is an idea to remedy the scansion:

I've never had to follow any rule.

I enjoyed this fun write! Funniest line:

Her litter box is right inside the den,
but I must go outside for nature's call.

Hugs,
rd
