Wow! What a story. How long ago did you write this? I have, obviously, not seen it before. The picture is really something, as well. I hope we can get you over the "All Time Best."

I think eleven years ago was when I wrote it. I don't believe in ghosts so it was just for fun. I did get the all time best. I only needed four reviews. Thank you for reviewing this.

Wow. This was quite a story. You told it in a voice that sounded like an eight-year-old girl. The story was very disturbing, but enthralling. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you for reviewing this. Yes if it wasn't a made up story, it would be very disturbing. I appreciate the comments and especially the six stars.

Wow! I didn't see that coming. There's no guarantee that Emily would be trapped there with her. This is a very eerie story that I enjoyed reading very much. I'm glad you revived it.

Thank you for the review. This was written eleven years ago. I don't believe in ghosts but I think I wrote it a Halloween story. I don't think and eight year old would be able to reason that out that her plan might not work. I glad you enjoyed my story.

You first posted this story eleven years ago? Wow! Funny how being dead changes one's sense of ethics and fair play. There certainly are no repercussions (like the death penalty). Sorry, couldn't resist.

LOL, I imagine after having you dreams crushed by an evil cousin when you're eight years old would pretty much illuminate any fear you might have a of death. Without guidance, you could make up your own rules of justice. Thanks for a great review.

Well done, my dear wife had an imaginary friend when she was young, she was called Tilly FitzGibbons, my granddaughter similarly had an imaginary friend called Phyllis, and a father called Jamie daddy, who went to visit my daughter in New York, Rebecca said she and her father were good house guests. Just loved this Beth, most imaginative, my wife and granddaughter are both intelligent and quirky, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy, A lot of children have imaginary friends. My parents thought I had one but I was talking to my doll and pretending she was real. My husband had an imaginary neighbor named Katsy that he was always begging to go visit but no one knew where Katsy lived.

Wow! I certainly didn't see that ending coming. But it makes a horrible sense. Barnaby deserved to be haunted by Penelope. You have succeeded in making this ghost sound like a child especially with her fear of the light.

Thank you for the review and comments. I didn't have anything new to post so I renewed a old one. I thought the picture deserved a ghost story.

What an imaginative story you conjured up for that eerie image,
Beth. You did a great job. I enjoyed reading it. I loved the POV of
the little girl ghost. She was very intuitive--esp at the end when
she figured a way to make Emily stay with her. Your lines flowed
smoothly with great imagery.
Thanks for sharing--a great early Halloween story, Jan

Thank you Jan, I probably should have waited until October to renew this one. You are the expert on the ghost and spirit stories so I appreciate the nice review.

This is a well-written and spooky Halloween story. The ghostly main character evokes pity at first, but then the reader starts to think she is not such a kind spirit when she constantly scares Barnaby. Finally, in the end, she turns on the deviousness full force when she considers manipulating her friend Emily into killing herself. What a scary character.

Thank you Gail, I appreciate you taking the time to read my Halloween Horror story. The head of our writing group seems to like this kind of story and keeps giving us scary pictures to write about. Now that Halloween is past, I'd just as soon have a different theme but he said he has another horror picture for our next challenge.
    Cheers,

Beth, Well written chapter with some creative twists--for example, exorcisms that didn't work and Emily's fear of the "light." It seemed like an endearing little story until that bone-chilling end! I like how you told the story from a child's POV, but not Emily's childish but ultimately evil thought process. Even kids can turn into ghouls. Regards, Hector

Excellent story and a great interpretation of the photo. It could be true too, couldn't it! It flows very well and tells the tale from a child's perspective. Well done.
