This very well written poem is a cruel reminder that life can turn out to be totally different than we planned leaving us helpless and small.
Rhyming of this poem is natural and I can imagine being at his bedside,it is beautifully and carefully written. It brings tears into my eyes.

The lost of a loved one can be devastrating. Fond memories locked in your heart will ease the pain. This is well written. Good luck in your contest.

No explanation needed for presentation. This is a loving and heartfelt poem of mixed feelings, appreciation at getting to say goodbye, and mourning for all that is lost.

A wonderful poem, a story within Death is not forever,
that is both sad and beautiful. I felt the strong emotion of your words. How special for you to witness the depth of the love of your parents and the hope and strength they shared in their faith. This is beautifully written from the heart. My favorite: "It's just an end to the body's pain
We'll meet again at heaven's gate,In my heart 'till then you'll remain." What a wonderful way to think of the loss of a dearly loved one. Thanks for sharing. JudithMarie

Judy, Thank you. I am going to put this one to music too. The tune came to me while I was in the shower the other day. LOL God has been and continues to be so good to us through this process of grieving. Blessings to you, Katie

Beautiful but very sad. I was hoping it was fiction. It must have been incredibly hard for you and your mother. I'm sure that your dad would love this poem. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Darla, thank you for your kind words. I think you are right, my dad would have liked it. I was able to write and sing him a song before he died. It was a really special moment. Blessings, Katie

Such a beautiful poem had me cry. My Mom died of Cancer and I fed her ice chips and held her hand. CAncr is not the best way to go in life but with this life we do not choose how we are to die only God can choose that way. I'm just glad that you and your parents had time together to love each other before the final passing. God Bless you and your family.

Angel, I know you totally understand my experience . The process of dying is so sad, yet all walls somehow crumble and what is left is love. Thank you for your kind words. Blessings, Katie

Hi Katie,
This is a beautifully written story in a poem. What a touching goodbye scene you witnessed between your mom and dad. I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know if you still remember my review of your poem about your dad which really made me cry. I'll never forget that. (It was about him crying in the night- something he wrote, then you finished it with your part about hearing him cry...)

Death is not forever,
It's just an end to the body's pain
-This is a comforting truth but I know the physical absence is not very easy to get used to. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Hugs,
Anabella

Your notes say beautiful and sad, you did a very good job of capturing beautiful and sad in you poem. It was a very emotion read for me. The ice chips are a signature part of the process often overlooked. I like the way you used them in the title and in the closing.

Thank you so much for your understanding review. The sweet hospice nurse told my mom that she didn't have to give my dad ice chips. But my mom said she needed to for herself, after that my father woke up one more time to kiss my mom. It was such a blessing. Thank you again, Katie

Though sad, this is a beautiful story
of a lasting love.
I am so sorry for your loss. You honor them
both with your tender depiction of their last
hours together.
