This is really very long packed with too many powerful ideas and not everyone will appreciate. The tenor of your write is preference of Buddhism over other isms. I am quite happy that you did not really preach but merely stated facts to drive your point. But surely you are courting unhealthy reactions from people of different faiths. This is however a powerful write. God bless.

Hi John,
I enjoyed reading this chapter, I found it to be very long. Nevertheless it is a very interesting and informative write. I consider myself an agnostic. I am also a very spiritual person. We do not need to understand religion, and philosophy to access spirit.
You mention about the bible written some 60 years after Christ's death. It is all written on hearsay and revelations. It was 2,000 years ago when people were ignorant of how the earth went around the sun etc. My problem with certain religions is the fact that they do not believe in the scientific evidence of the age of earth. I agree with you about Noah's ark. There is a lot of information here to reply to. Just on truth

Truth is like a diamond
one never sees the whole
each facet throws a gleam of light
that thrills the seeing soul
lets treasure the gleam that we see
and respect our neighbors view
for he sees another side than I
and I another than you.
Zip Dobbins.

I do not consider myself christian or such like. I draw the positive concepts from life. I am still young and people are often exploring so the thought of religion really baffles me at times because there is so many truths and untruths so i stick to the basic necessities and concepts which keep me at a leveled state of mind. thank you for sharing!

Hello John! I'm so impressed with the information you share and the deep research you must have done to write this chapter. It is very long ... not so much for an actual book, but when a writer is seeking help with grammar and structure, it's very difficult to spend so much time in review.

I appreciate your work, no matter the length.

Hi, John. I read this and found it very informative. You are a well-educated individual, that' is obvious and your outlook leaves room for a very involved conversation as to pros and cons. I really don't want to go there. I am here to learn yes...but Moreover to learn about writing for writing's sake. I have to be honest. Not only was your combo of essays long...(which I thought might be a mistake if you planned on attracting a lot of Fanstory readers, but also it was very "dry"

I don't mean this as an insult in any way, I am just telling you one man's opinion. I have been on the site since 2004...sen A ton of writing...and Although very well-written...well.....you Take it from there.

Good luck with your writing. I think were you to -put your ideas and outlooks in the form of a story somehow (difficult I know) it would be more interesting. Bob

Hi, Cogitator. You have put a lot of thought into this. After reading this I feel like my mind can hold no more. All I want to do is fall asleep. I can imagine it took a lot from you to get all this down on paper.

If we all lived as Christ lived, there would be no wars, and Christ would not have been crucified. Our troubles all boil down to lack of empathy, and most of our problems stem from our desire for power and glory.

Thank you for sharing this. This certainly should make us think.

April

We all seek the same in our spiritual journey. It is only by admitting that we all have the same source of consciousness that we can reach love, compassion, and enlightenment. Thanks...John

Might need a bit of snipping here but that is okay as first drafts should have the lot poured in in order for the writer to keep and subtract what he needs. There is certainly a big difference between believing and knowing. If one knows they don't need to make others bend to their beliefs. Nick.

This is the toughest chapter without doubt. Too many emotions get in the way of clear thinking sometimes. I am getting great help in cleaning it up. Thank...John

Saudi Arabia is a perversion of the true teachings of Islam (I have lived in Islamic countries for the past 20 years, 15 in Indonesia and 5 years in Dubai), but then again, so is the Vatican a perversion of the Christian teachings. Although I do believe in a supreme being, I prefer to do it without the "instruction" from well-intentioned hypocrites. Thanks for the delightful read. Ray aka R. K. Alan

I am certainly impressed with your research and knowledge expressed here. You are a very wise person. I agree with everything you say. I don't know if you read my essay on religion, but it was more critical and angered some people. Your essay is balanced and believable because of your use of references. I didn't notice any errors in it as I read it through. Congratulations on a great achievement to bring some truth to our world.
