I'm in catch up mode, going back a chapter at a time. I'm sorry I hadn't read this chapter earlier. It is extremely well done. Some gems in here are descriptions like: (1) "Leave it to Mac to hand me a large plate of piping hot pressure peppered with enough guilt to give someone with a cast-iron stomach a permanent case of heartburn;" and (2) "The big, tough, burly cop was pouring his heart out to me. I felt like I was treading on sacred ground meant only to be shared with him and God." Those are memorable. I like James' comment "now that I am qualified for sainthood." Considering James' father's humble start it is hard to imagine how he had become so successful. If James had a high IQ I guess that his father may have too.

There has been a lot of research into the genetics behind high IQ's and it is equally divided between the yes and no's. I go into why James's dad was so successful despite his father's abusive nature later in the book. thanks so much for the awesome 6 stars, I sincerely appreciate it.

I love the plate of food Valerie, cracked me up. So now the dad is getting even more mysterious his family too. And your right when your a kid you don't question the man who runs the house with an iron fist. I used to be scared to say anything ever let alone ask a question. So that rings very true for me. XO Vicki

Sounds like his father had a rough childhood and I wonder if there is criminal activity in his past? I enjoyed this excellent chapter.

'Be Careful What You Ask For'is a chapter that lets us see another side of Mac and learn more about the killer. James reaction and persistance to get more information on his father gives promise that more fascinating truth will be exposed soon.
Very enjoyable chapter, Sasha.

Arc of the Covenant/s/b Ark--that's what the label said when I found it in Ethiopia----Leave it to Mac to hand me a large plate of piping hot pressure peppered with enough guilt to give someone with a cast-iron stomach a permanent case of heartburn./great line----with the social skills of a wart hog, an IQ that made everyone in the room feel like a kindergarten dropout,/love it! Especially too, when all my reviewing points about your work are laudable

Thanks so much for catching the spelling error. I am thrilled you got a kick out of my description of James. I've been waiting a long time to write this one...I just love that kid! Thanks so much for the awesome 6 stars, I sincerely appreciate it.

Good grief! Was his grandfather also a serial killer? That's scary because one would tend to believe that a bad gene was passed down to that family. No wonder Mac likes James. Who wouldn't--he's a genious with a kind heart.

So far there has been no scientific evidence of a 'serial' killer gene...but who knows. I personally think it is totally environmental or cause and effect. Glad you like James as much as I do, he's the son I never had.

This is a solid chapter, with crisp writing. I didn't see any areas that needed to be changed, and it seems there is a family web filled with lies. Interesting....nothing at the cabin? bummer.

Hi Valerie:)
More frustration for James. After telling Mac all that he knew about his father's early background, he finds more holes in the police investigation.Nothing that Mac told James seems to rise to the level of Mac's warning, "James, some things are best left alone."
The bits and pieces that Mac reveals only makes James more determined to find out the truth of his father's early life. Now he is determined to find out the full extent of what his mother and Aunt Em always backed away from revealing.
This is an excellent Chapter, that revels only a few pieces of what appears to be a well kept family secret. Will James finally get his relatives to tell all. I'm ready to find out.
Love ans hugs,
Roger

Yes, I did tease the reader a bit with this one. James definitely has his work cut out for him if he expects to find the truth behind who his dad really is. I am pleased you enjoyed this one.

Thanks for catching the spags. I take a look at that awkward sentence and see what I can do to fix it.
