James' father is now revealed to me as being fairly intelligent. My earlier guess was right. Certainly the grandfather was not seen as any kind of an admirable character. His funeral was unattended shows that very well.
Good characterization of James with "I abruptly slammed my fist onto the table." Mac calm response also shows his character too. With one scene you reveal much. Well done.

It's a disturbing past his father has I can tell, I have a few ideas but I'm not saying it's fun to see if I'm right. Wasn't Ted Bundy from Seattle? Really good chapter again very interesting and you are so very good at dowelling characters and relationships and little things that make you feel like you know them. Got sided tracked with an annoying phone call from the absentee husband so I cut him short. LOL!! XO Vicki Now I want a drink.

Yes, Ted Bundy was from Seattle (actually Tacoma). So was Robert Yates, The Spokane Killer, and Gary Ridgway (The Green River Killer). Glad you liked this one.

Creepy somethings in the water.

It must be something pretty bad if the detective won't talk about it. Maybe he killled his sister or something like that? Just guessin here, but I can wait till it comes out in the story. Excellent chapter.

Nice, clean, and consice with good form. Your dialogue is very realasitc and you're making the reader feel the frustraton James has. As he fishes for information, so do we...nice work

One has to remember that James is still very young and his tears were for his mother more then for what is happening to their lives, though it can't be easy for him.
It is a pretty good relationship that James has made with Mac, wouldn't happen in many similar circomstances.

Yes, the relationship between Mac and James is unique, for both of them. I am so pleased you are enjoying this.

Mac and James are exchanging information about James' father. James doesn't know very much, but his father wasn't close to his family. There sounds like there might have been abused involved. Mac can't say much because it's an ongoing investigation. This chapter does reveal more about James' father.

Yes, James's father was a control freak and it seems his own childhood was similar. There is more to come as James pursues the truth. Glad you liked this one.

Wow... another well written chapter where the dialogue was tight and truly believable. I have only read a couple of chapters, but now I will set aside some time to peruse the back ones. You peaked my interest.
Peace, John

Hi Smurph,
I feel sorry for James, his emotions and curiosity are almost too much for him to handle. I wonder if the truth about his father and his aunt are better left unsaid? I enjoyed this chapter. You are such an accomplished writer and this story is interesting and intriguing. Well done...I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I hope you are feeling better. Blessings, chey

That is the real question, is James able to handle the whole truth? Time will tell... lol.

Once again you have a great post and are an expert at describing human emotions. I can't wait to see where you go next with this novel.
