Really cool story. I love your vivid detail to the settings. The similes and metafors help the story a ton. The obvious tension in the story makes it really grwat.

Comment from Gail Lafleur
I loved the imagery that was created--Man, or in this case woman fighting the forces of Nature. The only thing I did not like was that I found the story to be too short! Was it suppose to be?

Alone, deserted by her husband, and madness constantly nibbling at her mind--wow, what a powerful write my friend. Well deserving of the award. Well done. Enjoyed it.

Hi there! Thanks for looking this up...one of my few successes! What a delight to have you read it! Very nice of you Para! Susan

Congratulations on your win! This is short but so very real because of the wealth of details. The reader feels the young woman's thirst and fear. Dropping the baby and not aware. That is desperation. Beautiful slice-of-life piece.

This is a very powerful piece of writing. You've got an incredible talent. I've read three of your stories in the past half an hour and each they're just getting better and better. Brilliant!

Hi Darla! Thank you very much!! I am thrilled to have your wonderful confidence. Wow! You honor me deeply with your kind reviews...I wrote this in less than an hour, but edited it for a few days. With good help here. Do you watch the History channel? This was inspired by a show on the dustbowl...i would die in one day if I had to try to survive that wind and dust. Thank you again Darla...if you are new here , welcome and happy writing none the less! HUG! Susan

Hi Susan,
It is easy to see why this story won the contest. My heart went out to the poor woman in your poem. This is so sad and I can actually place myself beside the woman and hear the wind whistle death. Bravo...blessings, chey

HI Chey! A very special thank you for reading this! I am so glad you took a minute! We had THREE funnel clouds almost touch down last evening, just before dark, and OH the wind! It is so scary! ")) Hugs for this kind and welcome review...tho not necessary, just wanted you to enjoy...susan

Great little story. You must be proud of it. I liked every part - and along with flowing nicely, it concluded (although sad) left me thinking about it for some time.
Thanks
David

Congratulations! I can see why you won. What strong imagery. It was short, concise, and had great impact. You could see the baby falling from her arms with no hope in sight. Well done.

That was a powerful and short story. No extra words. Each sentence was concise and added to the one before. An excellent write. Congrats on winning the contest.

Excellent piece of the reality of the plains in the nineteenth century.
I saw no errors for comment.
The anguish of the woman comes through very clearly.
