Hi,
I would give the poem a six just because it is about a brother Marine
I served during the same time frame. I never went to Nam.
I tried but, my Col would not send
me. I really saved my life.
I am sorry for your loss.
I know you served here at home too.
Often that is far harder than being in the field. I think the poem is a really good write. It has a good flow to it and a terrific message. You might want to check out the website: www.togetherweserved.com share your poem on the USMC and other parts too.
It will be well received and so will you. They are good people there.

Best Regards,

    Hi Judy,
I meant my CO saved my life by not allowing me to go. Anyways, I think you'll like that site. There are quite a few Marines on this site. If you need help let me know and I'll try to help you if I can.

OH Judith...I am so sorry. I wish him, and you, all the luck in the world...my husband has skin cancer...and so, tho it's not progressed yet, it probably will. Your poem is lovely, sad, and has deep emotions that draw us in. Please take care...and say hello to your husband for me? Luv, susan

Your poem is so right. That war, like no other, did not bring glory - only spite and remorse. The people that went to that war, were no different from the ones that went to Iran, or Europe for that matter. They certainly deserve our thanks and our respect. Your poem is a lovely tribute to both your husband and the service he gave to his country. I am saddened that he is battling cancer. It is a tough road - but at least he has your wonderful love and support to help him. May God's love be with both of you. Rose.

First, I would like to say that this is a VERY touching tribute to Vietnam Veterans. I can almost hear this as a song. Do you know how to play the guitar? I am only giving you four stars because I think that this poem could use some work in the areas of punctuation and grammar. It is a "Poem Of The Month" nominee and therefor I believe should be edited properly. Just my opinion.

Anyway, I have some suggestions for you to improve on your poem:

1st stanza,
2nd last line: could use a comma or colon after 'them' as it is a quote.

2nd stanza, 'warrior' should have an s at the end because you said 'these', making it plural.

*Punctuation is used sporadically in your poem.

For example, when you say: "Welcome home, my brother" that is a quote and should have a period or exclamation mark at the end, depending on the feelings that you want the reader to have when reading it.

I wish you the best of luck in the contest. Thanks so much for sharing your story. If you would like further editing, just ask.

Thanks again!

~Keronica

Thank you for taking the time, but I am not seeking to make this better. My husband was Welcomed Home yesterday by the One whose welcome is most important.

That's so sad. :*( I'm sorry for your loss. At least you know that he is with God now. I wanted to change my review, I will do so now.

You have me sobbing, Judy. It's such a sad period of history - dear, young men, tossed into a battle zone and told to do their duty, while the ordinary citizens back home railled against the political decisions. How heartbreaking that the soldiers were made to feel like the bad guys. Young, dedicated men, doing their duty by their country. I sob for the unfairness of it all. They got caught in the crossfire. It must have hurt like the blazes to see someone you loved go through that!
And now this, my dear. I wish you courage. It's a hard letting go. My thoughts are with you.

Your poem is so touching. Your pain is palpable. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

This was such a terrible, sad war that was almost totally unrecognised. You have captured the feelings of so many men and their families so poignantly and with such empathy. It can only be truly understood by one that has experienced it.Thank you for sharing these difficult and distressing times.

I have read your words...and reread your words. They come from your heart. You tell a story that so many of our men have had to keep inside. The heartache of serving with purpose, love, and determination amid being misuncerstood, criticized, and held in disdain come through clearly within your words. Thank you for being your marine's voice...and many other service men's as well. I keep you both in my prayers as you journey together in this biggest battle of your lives. Tell him "thank you for his dedicated service." Love, Judy

Your poem is a great tribute to your Marine's love of God family and country. And a tribute to soldiers everywhere. It flows so well with no forced rhyme and gives the reader plenty to think about. Many thanks for sharing this with us. And I am so sorry. God bless you both and your family. JennieClare

Of a cold and worldly hell
