I like the tension of "eyes closed", "eyes open" references. Usually so short a poem can't manage so complex a contrast, yet not a contrast since the closed eyes could belong to either the client or the mystic. "Clever clairvoyant" has a pleasant sound to it. The alliteration works well to focus attention on the main person of the poem. I find this whole topic intriguing. I want to believe in it yet don't want to. I think, though, that some people do have a particular sensitivity to things others are unaware of. Unfortunately, there are many people around who just prey on the gullible among us.Thanks for a very thought-provoking poem!

Thanks for the wonderful review, bowls. Glad you found this senryu thought-provoking and saw the complex irony I was going for. It is an intriguing topic. There are a few claivoyants througout history that I believe truly had the gift and amazed everyone... Peter Hurkos and Edgar Cayce come to mind. Also, I find John Edwards psychic abilities fascinating. Appreciate all your comments ... ;0) Art

clever picture for a clever use of words, is the mystic really there? Or is she asleep, only the prophet knows!
Good piece, well done

Thanks, The Stranger. Glad you liked this senryu, and the artwork. She might be an amazing mystic, or... just fooling the public. It's kind of thought-provoking.

Such wonderful alliteration you've used in this senryu, startomkat! I liked your bit of irony how the client is always asked to close their eyes to shut-out distractions, while the mystic keeps theirs wide open while they observe everything. It also made me think about the blind who can see things in their minds without the sense of sight.
Excellent poem and I hope it does well in the contest for you, AstoundingKat!

Hello Mystic Indy... Thanks for the wonderful review on this senryu. I found the artwork of this medium-clairvoyant fascinating ... an illusion as sometimes her eyes are closed, and sometimes open. Some people really have the gift ... highly developed extra-sensory perception. I do pretty well at psychometry ... holding objects like keys or a ring, and then getting visuals like a movie playing in my mind. I astounded one lady by describing in detail her house and neighborhood, what kind and color car she drove and that she had three kids. I saw a YouTube video the other day of a clairyvoyant that was so accurate that she had her two teenage clients in tears.

Nicely done Art. You said so much in so few words and it's true. One who is clairvoyant does need to see in the usual sense. They see perfectly in their minds. Bravo!!

One could call that picture "eyes wide shut"! :P
Good senryu, Sir Starkitty - I like the contrast of the types of eyes referred to. One could read the second line as meaning either the clarivoyant's eyes are closed, or the clients' eyes are closed in self-deception - though I think the last line probably negates that interpretation.
Well done and good luck in the contest!
Cheers,
Mrs Louis

Thanks, Mrs Louis. ... yes, eyes wide shut. It's a fascinating piece of artwork, and I imagine she's a medium of sorts. Clairvoyants probably don't need their eyes open to access their mystic eyes, or eye. You're a medium ... right? I saw some YouTube video's the other day of a British clairvoyant astounding some teenage girls with her deep accurate vision. She made the girls cry. Some psychics, clairvoyants, etc. who really have the gift, it might not make any difference at all on eyes open or closed. I wonder what Louis thinks about this? He might think it a bit silly.
I thought about rerunning my 'Psycic Fair Revisited' contest that you won one year. Having Louis around at a psychic fair must be a hoot!
Hope you are doing well. I'm still thinking about a trip to Austrailia next year, especially if I take early retirement.
Have to run. I'm having computer problems... need to get a new computer, or a backup computer while this one's in the shop.
Cheerio ... ;0) Sir Starkitty

My pleasure, Sir Starkitty!
I'm no medium - at least, not in the sense of passing on messages and contacting people in general in Spirit. It's only Louis and the kitties and occasionally our family or friends I hear from, which suits me, lol. Certainly one doesn't need to have the physical eyes open for contact, no. I usually do, only because most of our conversations happen when I'm walking, so closed eyes wouldn't be a smart idea! :P
It was fun when Louis and I finally did go a couple of readings together. Not at all like in that story, of course, but it's pretty cool when the medium says "There's a man with long black hair standing next to you and playing with your hair!"
Could be busy out here next year, lol. Leslie might be visiting in April, we hope. I bet you guys will be hoping our dollar falls!
Good luck with the new pc. That's a rotten expense ... as well as just a general nuisance.
Cheers,
Mrs Louis

I enjoyed your poem, it said it all in just a few choice words. I am partial to the spiritual or mistic world. I have had a near death experience. I think your work nailed it, thanks for chance to read it.
