Well,I'm giving you a sixer...while I'm not a poet, I certainly got the ironic message here. Loved it. Good luck in the contest.

Hi Patty - I don't think I'm getting good at all, but I'm getting lazy to do what I want to do ... write stories. LOL Bill

It's good to take a break from story-writing to write something a little simpler. I know you'll get back to old Dax soon, ha ha.

Hahahahaaaa.. what a wonderful little poem, Bill.
And such a delightful commentary on that funny picture.
You have told me almost as much about US politics as some of our news broadcasts.
Love it!

Hi Sally - I was sitting here outlining the next chapter of my book, and I came across that picture. I couldn't help myself. Warm regards, Bill

Aah, you are truly the master of written irony. It was quite a fall into oblivian for some. But, I think their footprints will remain for a long time.

Hi Lola - things in politics come and go, but my muse for this work was the picture. I'm not a democrat, but in honesty, I think Ms. Hillary is head and shoulders above ....

Oh too funny. You said a lot in a short adorable poem. I always vote in major elections and sometimes vote in the mid-term election if there's an issue I feel strongly about. I HATE politics. Well, my husband has a MA in political science. He has no patience for me in this area. He always votes, at least once, twice, if they would let him. Well, when I arrived home from work Tuesday and he realized I hadn't voted, he continued to remind me the voting booths were open until 7:00 and if I was too tired to drive, he would take me. Tired of listening to his repeated requests that I vote, I finally said, "Are you sure you want me to vote. In the last election, I wrote in our cat for president because I didn't like either candidate." He sighed and said, you're right, it wouldn't make any difference if you voted.

What's your cat's position? I might like him or her in 2012. I actually voted for myself in the recent elections in Georgia as a judge. I finished third!

I can promise my cat would not be effects my lobbiest.

This is delightful. Shame on you for not being best friends with our President. :-) Your senyru was wonderful. Best of luck in the contest. Also best of luck to Auburn. Had to get that one in too! Shirley

I like this poem, but the political picture infects it with unnecessary commentary.
As a standalone poem, the basis of my rating, I like the implication that as a friend the poet will help the one who fell....until the end line, which packs a punch in the unexpected. It also reflects much of daily life, in which many don't take time to help a friend.
I also like the musical flow of the poem - the sounds, rhythm, thought crescendo, etc.

It was of course, written tongue in cheek. I think both of the folks outlined are incredibly capable, but I think you would agreee that no love lost. By the way, written as total satire. With all the flaws in our Country, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world, Regards, Bill

I totally agree with you. It was just that the experience is so universal - we all have "friends that are not friends". The way you expressed it was still excellent, even if you meant it tongue in cheek. You tapped into a truth and expressed it well.
