She tells me I made her cry, but in a good way! This one came from a strong whim, and was composed on a noisy, packed commuter train heading home from London. This is true of many of my poems!

A lovely tribute - Mike. Doyou work in the heart of London - I've a son who has an apartment between Leicester and Trafalgar Square, and although close to all one could need -- to noisy for us - we love to come home to the peace and quiet. M
-
I work at the Home Office headquarters in Marsham Street, although after hearing the news reports today, who knows how long that'll last!
That apartment must cost an absolute mint! I enjoy working in central London, but there's no way I could live there - it's just too fast, loud, dirty, noisy and busy for my liking :-). I live in South East London, although my post code is Kent, so I'm in the outskirts.
If we ever have the money and appropriate jobs, my soon-to-be wife and I would love to move to Norfolk or Yorkshire, but for now that's just an aspiration.

good luck, Mike. M

Good Afternoon Mike,
What a delightful poem you've written about Jude. As
I read the poem I had to agree with all that you said. I've
come to admire her writings and love to read them.
I think you've done her great honor by writing this beautiful sonnet for her.
I am still learning how to write in iambic pentameter, but I would like to share a thought with you.
wrought by her scribe's illuminating eye,
Wrought seems to be "heavy", and therefore stressed vis-a-vis the second word of by being "light" and feeling unstressed. When I scanned and read the line, it felt like this to me:
WROUGHT by her SCRIBES IlLUMinATing EYE
Thanks for honoring Jude and for sharing this beautiful poem with us.

Thank you, Ray. I'm so glad you liked it, and I'm always open to thoughts on iambic stresses and where they might be improved. Of course, how the stresses work is very much down to context, pronunciation, and personal interpretation, but you're right about that line 'feeling' a little off. I'll have a think, and perchance a fiddle :-)
Thanks again.

Well said, Mike. She writes the notes we can't resist and is so versatile in her forms. This sonnet is flawless and rich in the description of an accomplished and published poet, well deserving of your words. I adore the line "On this bright cousin of a parchment's sheet"- that is such a clever line, as well as 'dreamer, feeler, family inspired.'- that is a perfect description. Well done and I have no doubt Jude is thrilled with this beautiful tribute. Joycexx

Thank you, Joyce :-). I am enjoying sonnets at the moment, and I was struck with the strongest urge to scribble something for Jude, so the two things went very naturally together!

Outstanding sonnet adn much deserved tribute. bet JJ loved this, Mike.
her ringing words will wheedle wonderful
and wily phrases without compromise
until we beg our heartbeats to be still.
Wonderful whimsy and wit!
On this bright cousin of a parchment's sheet, (great line!)
she plies the trade of acid wry insight, (brilliant line!)
at once enigma and bared book replete (superb line!)
with every style of literary might. (TRUE!!)
Superb stanza! Superb literary style and device here as well!
So every time we hang upon a line
wrought by her scribe's illuminating eye,
think of the poet hid twixt her designs -
the dreamer, feeler, family inspired.
this stanza is lovely and well phrased. Scribe's illuminating eye...love that.
In harmony with her poetic gift,
she is the note musicians can't resist.
Outstanding! her poems are so musically rich, so that is an apt closing couplet.
Glad I had a six left for this fine tribute and well crafted sonnet.
Kudos.

Thank you, so much, rd :-). A sixer from you, especially on a sonnet, means an awful lot, and I'm equaly thrilled you enjoyed my tribute to Jude. Her versatility is an example I try to follow, and I was glad to have the opportunity to write her something.

She was indeed thrilled with it, too. She told me so! ;-) rd
