Faye, I love watching football, and you express perfectly just why. I root for the Philadelphia Phillies and am thrilled they've been so successful the past few years, but I won't sit in front of the television and watch three hours of their playing - it is just toooooo slow. But football, even though my son now is married and I don't have to watch it to keep him company, I still watch on my own. You capture its gladiator spirit perfectly. :-) Brooke

I'm not a baseball fan either. I agree it's too slow. Glad you liked my essay, Brooke. I'm rooting for Brett Favre to get to the Super Bowl again. Faye :)

My team has Michael Vick as their starting quarterback this season - many of us are not happy that this man who tortured and slaughtered dogs is heading our team - it is putting a damper on my enthusiasm.

Sorry.. you are right. The other one I had made notes on was about soccer or dodge ball I think. I guess that guy will never know he left the Y off. LOL

I used to enjoy watching Pro football on TV, it was just like taking a sleeping pill :) Then there got to be way too many teams to follow. Gave it up. Now the food channel is my sleeping pill.

An interesting comparison of modern football to the Roman gladiators.
"past-time" should be "pastime"
"compete" should be "competing"
I don't know that I agree that football is the only sport that offers danger and elation all in one package; what about hockey?
