Excellent

I love this, but it probably hits home for me because I have not yet been able to have a child. I can envision myself speaking to my unborn baby and reading to him or her while in the womb when I read this. It's also refreshing to see writing about the good side of pregnancy and not all the pain and anguish associated with it.

This short fiction is cute. A circus box spilling over a tray and the writer chose to pick three kinds of animal goodies one after the other. The first is a lion Jack, the King of the Jungle, then the second one is an elephant with big ears and long trunk and the third is a bear, big and strong like her child's Dad. A sharp jab made her jump. She made a mental note to buy another box, after all
she was "eating for two and teaching too."

Good

I appreciate this short essay. I have given birth to 7 children, 6 of whom are still alive on this earth. I can empathize with this author who is talking to her unborn son regarding life's pleasures and experiences.

While the descriptions of the box in which the animal crackers are contained is vivid (I remember the animal cracker boxes), it still seems to me, unfortunately, a rather mundane essay about being pregnant and having a conversation with your baby. I'm sorry, but it is hard for me to review this work. I remember too well how I felt when I was pregnant (8 pregnancies in 10 years). I was so busy after the first two arrived that I had no time to speak to my babies I was carrying. I asked God to please take care of them and our family and fell into bed each night, exhausted, only to awake the next morning with energy enough to do what I had to do that day and then repeat the action the next night. I envy the author because she had time to speak to her child. I tried to give them the love they deserved while in the womb, but I find this essay just a bit unrealistic.

Her descriptions are excellent and her writing flawless so I must give her a very good review.

I've given birth to five children and faced many many trials and tribulations throughout their lifetime, but I wouldn't give up a moment of it. In the still of the night, I often sat in the dark, listening to music and talking to my unborn child...even when times were rough. It was my salvation. Having children is a choice and enjoying them a gift. It's sad that you weren't able to find those special moments.

What an adorable story in which this expectant mother is talking to her unborn baby about the animal represented by each animal cracker she is eating, just like a mom might talk to her toddler when feeding him. I was searching for a calm spot last night and this memory came to mind. Regardless of the turmoil, I always enjoyed those few private moments when I dreamed of the future and shared my thoughts with my unborn child...Music was and still is a very important part of their life and I think that love started in the womb when we shared moments in the dark.
