This is a realistic way a child would think. It is very well written in the manner a child would relate what he felt and what he saw. Sounds like he's already picked up on the girl thing.

How sweet snd special that you wrote a story about your grandson and his reaction to his first day of school. I hope you find other stories to write about and share.

Thank you Susan. I appreciate the review and comments. I usually channel my own younger self when writing stories. This was first attempt of getting into my grandson's mind.

I enjoyed reading your contest entry. Usually at pre-school everybody likes everybody. I think that's great. You did a great job describing how this little felt. I could even see it on his face. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks for the review and comments. The contest was nine years ago when I wrote this. It is a revived piece.

Awe, Beth, it is a wonderful little piece and I loved it. You have indeed managed to write the story in the voice of your grandson. How cute. And now he's eighteen. Where do the years go. Ulla:)))

Some children do find the first day of school is stressful, while others seem to love the idea of being free for a spell from their parents. My husband said on the first day of school he did get sick to his stomach and threw up.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I was very outgoing before I started to school. The first day I started to become introverted. It took me a while to get over it.

Dear Beth, Did you get your grandson's permission to tell this story before you posted it here, where hundreds of people on FanStory, might see it? He did say, even when he was six, that he didn't see why grown-ups had to tell everybody everything that he said, (though I don't blame you, he sure was a cutey-pie.)

It sounds like what a child might say or think. My daughter
latched on to a little boy her first day. He was a good looking light skinned negro boy. She liked his tan. If we gave our children the chance there would be no prejudice in this world. Well done, Beth. Nancy:)

Thanks Nancy, I appreciate the review and I loved you comments. You are so right about prejudice. Kids pick up the prejudice from their parents. It is sad they they learn some things that are bad from us.

He's a handsome young fellow. Your story is well-written, interesting, very realistic great child's POV. I could feel the child's fear empathize with him. The comment about maybe even a zillion was perfect, it added to the realism. Good luck with your contest.

I remember as a kid I hated telling my parents anything because the next thing I knew another family member was asking me about it! Such a cute story, thank you for sharing

Thank you for the review and comment. I guess all children much feel that way. I did. Parents get a good laugh out of what their children say and can'r resiste sharing it.

What a cute grandson you have! So sweet to find a girl he liked on day one of school. Children are precious little people, and they give us much fun in life.
