I love the poem. It read so smoothly and flowed with a great story. I had a friend who live in grand Manan, New Brunswick. I could see him telling a story like this. I found no editing but I was reading intently.

Hi Father Flaps:)
What a delightful poetic visit to Grand Manan Island. No wonder the tide rise so high around this wonderful island, off the SW coast of New Brunswick.

I've always known it to abound in exotic birds and beasts, but I never dreamed of the wonderful singing dragon you describe with such vivid imagery, rhythm, rhyme and flow. I think your dragon's song has captured and enraptured my mind.

Thank you for sharing.

Roger

Thanks so much for the kind words! I read your profile... I also run. I am 29 miles away from the 1000-mile mark since starting to run in 2006. I am retiring on June 30th. I am also a Christian...since 1974. I play guitar in the Worship Team at our church, Grand Bay Baptist. We have some things in common!

wow you keep count of your miles???? I have been running since 1996 and I cannot tell you how many mile I have run..most interesting..I am curious..why the pen name..FatherFlaps?? Do you mind if I ask..

No, not at all. I have worked at Moosehead Breweries for 38 years. Retiring in just a few days. When you work in a plant with 170 union brothers, it doesn't take long before you're given a nickname that sticks. Father? It didn't take long for the boys to find out that I was a Christian (and a Baptist at that!) Flaps? I inherited my father's ears. They really aren't that big... but union brothers are like children...they can be very cruel!!! As far as running goes, if I didn't keep track, I would lose interest. I even time myself, and try to beat my fastest June run (for example) once, in July. My fastest 3-mile run last year was 25:22 (not that shabby for 58 years old). We have a wonderful trail here in Grand Bay, between the road and the railway tracks. A great place to run...up and down! Thanks for asking!

an impressive run..I have slowed down running quite a bit..it has taken its toll, I still run, just not as intense and long..
    happy retirement..

Very interesting, and very (slightly) haunting. Two things: 1.What does, "Douse" mean?
2.This a real place, or the whole thing's made up?
Some background would be nice.

Thanks for reading... from salty douse? Many coastal birds "plunge" into the ocean for fish to eat. Dark Harbour is a real place along the western side of Grand Manan Island, off the coast of New Brunswick (Eastern Canada). The dragon, however, is pure fantasy.

Thanks, Isaiah... I'm just having fun right now... I haven't investigated too many contests yet. If I post my poems here, can I not use them in a contest???

Most contests require that you post something totally new for them. But past posts are accepted in a few.

Thanks for the kind words, Gert. I had to think about what you were trying to tell me. But I believe you're suggesting to place the "roar" under the line so it doesn't stick out there so far. Right? ..........good idea! I appreciate your input.
    cheers

Hello Kin, yes If it was me I would put ((roar)0 after the line --
Can clear her throat with one big

so it won't stick out to the right.
