This was so charming and lighthearted, I loved it. I had a sneaky suspicious that the oven wasn't actually "on" LOL. This was a very entertaining write and I enjoyed it very much. ~Best, Elizabeth

Oh, good one Carol. I have done that, have you? Everything all set and perfect and then in my mad rush, I forgot to actually turn the oven on! Fun read. Thanks and congrats on the win!

Short sweet and really funny - reminding me of many years ago when my brother, home from the army and wanting to impress his girl friend with his newly-learnt cooking. He used eggs and bacon that were meant for my Dad's Sunday breakfast - his first mistake - I was out with a boy-friend and on arriving home, my brother showed me his egg and bacon flan (called a Quiche these days) all brittle
and hard -- Where did I go wrong? he asks. I found out he'd turned on the oven but didn't turn the regular up which was on the lowest se tting and left it in far too
long -- thus it was hard. Had to laugh, altho my Mom didn't when she found out all he had wasted. Strange how things stick in your mind.
Well penned, Carol.

Margaret,
When I was young, I burned my first attempt at dinner and my parents came home to smoke rolling out of their kitchen..at least that's the story that's been handed down through time. Ended up owning a very successful catering business and enjoyed every minute of it until the last cookie was baked. Thank you for sharing your story with me. And thank you for the kind review. Smiles, Carol

What a hilarious story. I love it! At least it didn't turn out to be an utter disaster. When she did finally turn on the oven at least, hopefully, the mixture could still be baked and her current Romeo wouldn't be any the wiser. A well written piece of flash fiction.

This was funny! I enjoyed reading it alot. Didn't see anything that needed to be worked on to make it any better. it is the best it could be. enjoyed. we all at times forget to do things. I forgot I had some chicken in the oven. It was burnt to a crisp.

Hi Carol,
What a delightful early morning read. I'm still laughing. Sounds like you have a terrific contest entry. It held my interest throughout and I could envision this scene and the interaction between sisters was so cute. Best wishes with the contest and thank you for sharing.

this is my story. i got a call from my mother one night. she was asking me how to make a jello cake. she later called laughing realizing she had called her daughter, the one who hates cooking, to ask how to make something. anyhow, this is a great story, at least the cake didn't explode or something. i saw nothing that needed correcting. this is a great entry for this contest. best wishes!:)

If I didn't know better I'd say Betty Crocker was a true blonde. Follows the directions to a tee and doesn't realize the oven has to be turned on?
Well done, Buck

Buck,
Watch it!! This Betty Crocker is a true blond...Burned my first dinner at the ripe old age of 8 (the family loves to remind me and has embellished the story well) but continued on to own and run a successful catering business...while being a blond. Thanks for the smiles...Carol
