I grew up in a rural area fairly bursting with barns. Few of them were this picturesque, and all of them smelled bad.

I like your celebration of barns though. It's very lyrical.

Thank you Sharesy. Yes some of them have unpleasant odors but farm people sort of get used to that smell. I like the smell of hay and cow and horse manure isn't as bad as some, probably because they are vegetarians.I'm glad you liked the poem.

I like your poem very, very much. Even though I grew up in a very big city and live in a smaller city, I too have a fondness of farms. Probably because my relatives lived on them and we would go and visit, so there is a nostalgia there. Thanks for sharing.

Thank for the review on Old barn. Come to think of it, I got my first kiss in my uncle's old back. I think quite a few people feel the nostaalgia.

I agree one hundred percent. I grew up in rural Illinois. There is nothing more peacefull than a old barn sitting in a pasture. It doesn't matter if there are cows grazing or not. Great tribute to old barns.

Barbara,I'm glad you agree and I really appreciate your comment. My favorites are the red one with a mountain in the distance. There are lot of them around the Smokies.

I like your poem Beth. It is diffrent, a nice change. A neighbour on the farm next to ours (eons ago) painted his barn orange and for many years for some or other reason my son thought that was where the sandman lived.
Well done
Cheers

Thank you for the review Rose. I wonder if barn in your part of the world look different. There is a shade of paint called barn red. I love the red barns with blue sky and mountains behind them. There is no accounting for the ideas children get in their head about certain places. That is cute about your son and the sandman.

No its different. I have seen your barns in movies. Also what fascinates me, you all have basements in your houses. Very few and far between here. And are you not afraid of fire with your wooden houses? LOL.

Hi there! You and me both. I love old barns. They are part of farm life and represent hard work, and homes for animals held dear, to me anyway...thanks for a great little poem! Susan

Hello Beth.
I'm with you the whole way. There is a country song ... I wish I was a country girl again...
This was a nostalgic and very enjoyable read for me.

Thank Ulster, I'm glad you enjoyed this and found it nostalgic. When I was a country girl I wanted the city life. Not that I have the city life it is in the country I find peace.
Thanks for the time to review this.
    Cheers,

I enjoyed your little odes to barns.

I too find the beautiful and I am city born and bred.

I love the architecture of them.

Photos and line drawings of them are irresistible.

I especially liked:

I am still a country girl at heart;
no longer there, yet it's still part
of what made me into whom I'd be.
Barns are part of my history.

I am a barn lover also. Whenever, I ride through the country, I'm always on the lookout for old barns. Your poem is just lovely. The middle verse is my favorite. Well done!
