I like this and the fact that you presented both sides. Yes, Valentines day is a day for lovers and we shall all someday meet ours. Congrats on your anniversary. The acrostic is good and the words say a lot. I enjoyed reading this.

It is the form, but more it is the need, we write for many, who can not write for themselves, this was a raw view of days for both the young and old, better than well done.. perfect... Walt

Melody... this is beautifully done. Many thanks for sharing it with us. The emotions transfer easily from page to reader. This also performs well aloud, its words gliding over my tongue. Pat.

I always read aloud... even some of the prose essays and stories get read aloud, to see what I can add to them by inflection, etc. I always read 'cold' (I don't scan first... just launch straight in there) Pat.

it is refreshing to have another view on the valentines day thing as it tends to get pretty one sided with the mushy stuff, if you know what i mean."May we all aspire to love and be loved". well said.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the mushy stuff. I can write that too, but it gets boring after a while. Thought I'd mix it up a bit with this piece. Glad you enjoyed it!

Beautiful poem Melody and so refreshing! I generally am not a huge fan of Valentine's Day as I feel it is over commercialised and a money making racket that rips into the bleeding hearts of those you have lost love or never known love. How those people must despise the day and all the rejection and hurt that goes with it all being rubbed in their faces. It's not often that the darker side of Valentine's Day is written about. Your words and powerful and thought provoking.
Well written my friend,
Janine

Thanks, Janine. I share your feeling about the commercialization of Valentines Day, (among other holidays) that virtually ruins the holiday's true meaning. Although I've found my twin soul, I feel for those who have no one to love. I started out to make it all about the positive side, but the poem took a turn of its own halfway through! I love it when that happens, don't you?

I remember Valentine's Day being not so great, and I use to write very adolescent sad poems about how terrible it was...but they changed a few years ago, and now I kind of look forward to it. Your piece encapsulates all those qualities, very well.
Thanks for sharing, and good luck in the contest,

Interesting, Thomas. Now you have me curious...(if you don't mind me asking) what was it that changed your mind about this holiday?
Thanks for your comments and the great rating!
