The history of the American Flag is very interesting. Half historical and half myth. This is very well written with good imagery and descriptive scheme.

A very informative piece of writing this...Thank you...Of course, had you paid your taxes that protected you from the Spannish, the mexicans, the indians the French the canadians and the dutch, then we would have sent you a few flags, and you wouldnt have had to sow your own...
All jesting aside, I enjoyed this read, and learnt something new today...Thank you
Five stars from me

thanks. By tradition Geo Washington was 'first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen.'
Once in a while we run across the genius of the man, in simple little acts; simple yet probably highly calculated. Such as showing up at the colonies' first Continental Congress in a military uniform.

Of course he was a genius...He was an Englishman! :)
Yes, he and his countrymen were indeed great people...Your Teddy Roosevelt was another in my opnion...I've read a few of his speeches...Inspiring stuff, especially his oratory at Sorbonne, Paris in 1910...Marvelous.

a funny commentary on Ol' Teddy. During the Spanish American War, Cuban Campaign, as Equine Encephalitis had caused the horses to be left behind, the troops attacking San Juan Hill were dismounted. During the fighting a horse in total panic raced in between the Spanish and the American forces. Teddy leaped from behind cover, caught the horse, and MOUNTED UP! The Buffalo Soldiers (10th Cavalry, Colored) had all been trained to protect their White officers at all costs, so they rushed from cover to try and get Colonel Teddy of The Rough Riders back to safety. He would have nothing of it, so the Black soldiers started to rush back for cover, but Teddy drew his pistol and threatened to shoot any man who abandoned 'the charge!' So the 10th, with the Rough Rider Volunteers, sprinted on up the hill overwhelming the Spanish defenders. They often wondered if perhaps the Colonel was as crazy as that horse. Teddy repotedly remarked of a famous painting of 'The Charge at San Juan Hill' which portrayed only white soldiers in the fight, "I guess the 10th kept on charging and ran right out of the painting."

I have to agree with you on that one. It couldn't have felt good being a British soldier and walking into a town that flew a different flag, even if it was very similar...still. Interesting little tidbit of history here. Thanks for sharing!

That is what struck me when I thought about why he chose an existing flag to slightly alter.
